    Moonlit, Episode 2: Daylight

    Moonlit by Jessica Knight

”You’ve never heard of baseball?” Elisa asked as Dominique took her hand and they started to walk into the park. ”How is that even possible?”

Central ParkPrivately Dominique thought she actually did recall Griff saying something to Apollo about it now that she thought about it. Something like it being a poor man’s cricket? At the time she hadn’t had a clue what he’d been referring to on either count though. ”Who can say?” She replied. ”I’m sure there are all sorts of things you know a great deal about, of which I do not. I’ve only been able to walk as a human for just under eleven years now. I’ll admit I’ve taken more of an interest in human social customs than I had in all the years prior, out of necessity if for no other reason, but you have to realize, for most of my life, I’ve, for the most part, simply tried my best to keep well away from humans.”

”…I guess I hadn’t really realized that about you.” Elisa replied. ”…As far as baseball goes though, you haven’t really missed much. I still don’t understand the attraction myself, honestly. But dad likes it a lot. Beth started liking it later on when she got older too, probably just to get closer to dad I guess.”

    ”Not you though?” Dominique asked.

Elisa smiled. ”I followed his lead and grew up to be a cop, so I guess we never lacked for stuff to talk about. Beth takes after mom more though, she’s going in to anthropology just like her as a matter of fact.”

    ”And Derrick?”

”He… he was a cop too. For a while anyway. He got his pilot’s license last year and he’d been flying police helicopters. He quit last month though, decided to become a pilot in the private sector instead.” She told her, still having mixed feelings about the whole thing, honestly. He’d been such a good cop, she hated for the department to have lost him. On the other hand, she’d be lying if she didn’t admit a part of her was glad he was safe out there flying yuppie businessmen around instead of out risking his life every day like her. The possibility of losing him in the line of duty had never been something she liked to think about, that was why she’d been so relieved when he’d started piloting instead of walking a beat. She’d just honestly never thought he’d quit like that.
