Moonlit, Episode 2: Daylight

She was quiet for some few blocks then, and Elisa didn’t try to draw her out again, which she was grateful for. One thing she didn’t like about most humans was that they always seemed to feel the need to fill silence with their words. And never seemed to know when to leave something rest. Elisa seemed to know that though. It was almost eerie how well, in fact. She wouldn’t go so far as to say that Elisa seemed perfect or infallible or anything, but, where her own heart was concerned, she apparently might as well be. It was such an oddly distantly familiar feeling. She could remember back, through the long veil of time, back to her youth. It was so very long ago, and she was no longer sure she remembered things exactly as she should, but Goliath she felt she would always remember, even if she were to never die and simply keep going, on and on until the stars themselves flickered away and fell from the heavens. She had had other suitors, females both of them, and no one had expected her to fall in love with a male as she had. It was somewhat usual among her kind, though certainly far from unheard of. But Goliath had just seemed like magic to her. The depths of his eyes, and the way his voice made her feel. How it felt just to share a fleeting touch. She could not have mistook her feelings for anything else other than love. And so she had pursued a relationship with him, and he had returned her feelings fully. He and Elisa had much in common. They both seemed to have a… nobility to them, a depth of character… She did not know if that was what had attracted her then, or now, but like then, she could not mistake her feelings for Elisa. And she had a feeling she would remember this time in her long life, just as clearly and as sharply as she remembered Goliath, as she remembered the son they’d had together. If time and distance had taught her anything from then to now, it was how very precious that feeling was. She had, in fact, at times thought that she was simply never to feel it again, with anyone. Now she knew that was not so. So, even if Elisa was a human, and even more an unexpected choice for a mate than Goliath had been in the eyes of her clan, she knew she could not turn away. Could not stand to even seriously consider doing such a thing.
