    The Last Photograph

The first photo was them smiling, an innocent looking photo. Despite herself, Rose smiled remembering the times when the two had been best friends. The next two photographs caused Rose to laugh at the complete and utter ridiculous faces they were both pulling. The laughing stopped though when her eyes fell onto the last photo.

The last photo was Vanessa kissing Rose’s cheek.

Almost immediately Rose recalled that very day when these photos were taken.

“Urgh, this chemistry homework is going to kill me.”

The two girls were sitting at the cafe in the midst of the shopping centre just outside a cafe. Vanessa was slipping a iced mocha out of a large cup with a bright red straw while Rose hadn’t touch her cup of non-fat, double shot, extra hot, cinnamon chai, latte. Instead, her face was head planted face down in her chemistry book whilst she groaned.

“Calm down. You’ll get it eventually,” Vanessa said smoothly. When Rose peered up at her, she took the time to carefully slip the book out from under Rose and place it back into Rose’s school bag, “Besides now is not the time for homework. As soon as you’re finished with your drink we are going clothes shopping.”

Rose let out another groan, “Do we have to?”

The glare she got from Vanessa made her sit up, “Alright fine.” She gave in.

“Good,” Vanessa said with a nod, a smiling curving on her lips as she went back to sipping her drink.

Rose rolled her eyes. It wasn’t as though she didn’t like buying new clothes, she liked dressing up occasionally. However it was the whole process of searching through crowds for the correct clothing, the whole changing room ordeal and then being shoved about in the queue that bothered Rose. Being the shy awkward wallflower that she was, she didn’t like crowds at the best of time and when you were in a clothes store on a Saturday you were bound to be pushed right into one.

Vanessa must have seen the anxious look flash across Rose’s face, “Don’t worry we won’t stay long. You still need to get your photos for your passport, right?”

“Oh yeah,” Rose remembered. Her dad had told her he needed to renew her old one that morning and had asked if she could get the photos required while she was out with Vanessa.
