The Last Photograph
“How about this?”
Rose raised her eyebrow, “Seriously?”
“You’re right. It’s not my colour.” Vanessa said putting the top down. She picked up the next shirt, “How about this one?”
“Now we’re talking.”
Vanessa grinned, as she collected the different sizes of the top for her to try out, “Okay. And now you.”
“Vanessa!” Rose cried, “You know how I hate changing rooms!”
“Oh come on! I can’t be the only one trying out tops.” Vanessa cried.
She titled her head to one side, sticking out her bottom lip, “Please?”
Rose hesitated, not because Vanessa’ puppy pout was not working on her – because it was – but because the pout had brought that same warm feeling back into her chest again.
“Okay, okay.” Rose said, pushing down the feeling.
“Yay!” Vanessa whooped. She immediately grabbed another top from the opposite rack and dragged Rose to the changing rooms before she could even take a look at the shirt.
Rose tensed when Vanessa pulled her into the same changing room as her. She couldn’t understand why. It wasn’t as if she and Vanessa hadn’t changed in the same room before, they had been friends ever since they were young after all.
“Okay, turn around.” Vanessa said, grabbing Rose’s shoulder’s and twirling her before Rose could even move. She hummed happily as she changed into her new shirt behind her.
Rose smiled as she waited patiently for Vanessa to finish changing. She didn’t know why but for some reason Vanessa always transformed from the calm and collected persona she usually put on to a more giddy and bubbly one whenever she was clothes shopping. Rose couldn’t help but like this side of Vanessa better than the one she usually showed. It was always nice to see Vanessa let loose and be so carefree for a change, without worrying about what her strict catholic mother would think. Rose just wished Vanessa could just be like this more often.
“Okay, you can turn around now.”
Rose turned. Vanessa held out her arms, showing off her top, “Well what do you think?”
Rose stood there, staring at Vanessa. The top was pink, not the loud, flashy kind of pink but a more subtle, paler, almost peach kind of pink, with a large purple outline of a heart in the middle surrounded by small glittery purple flowers. She looked beautiful.

*Really* great story. Terrific job blending the flashback with the present and tapping into the emotions of both. I love these characters, and I think you did a fabulous job with them. I hope you keep writing!
Nice job. There were a few typos, but other than that I liked it. It was sweet.
