Books and Letters – (Chapter: Justice is served!)

Judge Harris: In case 3005679, Zack Delatorre versus the state, for murder in the fourth degree how do you find Mr. Delatorre?

For a moment my heart stopped and I superstitiously crossed my fingers and hoped for a miracle.

    Juror: We find him guilty.

And there it was. He was over with. I had brought this scum down.

Judge Harris: In the accusations of robbery and fraud, how do you find him?

The judge asked and I most likely knew the jurors answers.

    Jurors: We find Mr. Delatorre…Guilty.

Within that moment I let out the breath of air I didn’t even realize I was holding in.

Judge Harris: Zack Delatorre you have been found guilty for the murders of for women and for fraud and armed robbery. You would have been sentenced to 50 to life but since you cooperated and made a deal with the D.E.A, you are sentenced to 35 to life without the chance of parole.

With that sentence given to him by the judge, in my head I heard the bars to is prison cell slamming shut in my head. The judge then banged his gavel and they hauled Delatorre away. I watched intently as the sheriff took him through those doors and I had to say if looks could kill, well then Id be one dead bitch. I gathered my things and as I began to head out of the court house, my boss, Rigby, pulled me aside.

Rigby: Look Spencer, for the next couple of days I want you to lay low ok, until I get word that this thing has blown over. I know it may be a little too paranoid but I don’t take these sort of cases too lightly. Delatorre’s family is really involved and he was their baby. They are not going to like it one bit that you put him away for life.

I sighed and rolled my eyes. Ok, people were being a little too paranoid. I mean come on; if the Delatorre’s wanted me dead they would have just offed me so I couldn’t even finish the case.

Spencer: Look Rigby with all due respect, I don’t think that’s necessary. I’m most certainly sure that nothing is going to happen. The Delatorre’s will get over it soon.
