    Riley comes into her own, and Ouch.

     

    “She’s long gone”

     

    Riley’s voice made Ashley jump. She turned, and found the young girl sitting at the dining table, quietly. She had clearly been there for some time.

     

    “How long?”, Ashley asked, closing the door and moving into the living room.

     

    “A few hours maybe.” Riley paused. Ashley for once could not read the brunettes expression. She wasn’t sure if she was sad, or angry, or maybe both. “She got a cab down to the train station in the village.”

     

    “Did she say anything?” Ashley pushed, mentally cursing herself.

     

    “Just goodbye. To me.” The way she put that phrase chilled Ashley, but she supposed she deserved it.

     

    “Well.. I guess we’ll catch up back in town. Want breakfast?” Ashley forced some cheer into her voice, and moved towards the kitchen.

     

    “Stop it Ashley”, the anger in Riley’s voice made the older girl stop in her tracks. She turned to the young girl, who was now standing at the table, hands gripping the edge. There were tears in her eyes, and she looked pained, very, very pained.

     

    “Ri”

     

    “No. For once you don’t get to pretend everything is ok.”Ashley didn’t know what to say. She looked at the other girl helplessly, her brow furrowing. “You slept with her”. It wasn’t a question, or an accusation, just a statement.

     

    “Yes” said Ashley, softly.

     

    “You hurt her.” Riley added, now sounding accusatory.

     

    “Riley, this is incredibly complicated…”

     

    “SO tell me about it. Uncomplicate it for me” Riley stormed. “She’s so clearly a huge part of your life. You have her photo on your desk, and have had for as long as I’ve known you. I think you’re friends and you say she’s some great artist. Then she shows up and it turns out she’s mad at you. You seem so distant, and you’re cutting me off and I hate it”, Riley ended on a sob.

     

    Ashley’s heart lurched, and she reached the girl in a few steps. Wrapping her arms around her, she pulled her into a fierce hug, and held her close. She felt the young girl sob, her body shaking as she buried her head in Ashley’s shoulder. After a few minutes, Ashley pulled back, brushing the curls back from Riley’s temple, and kissing her gently on the forehead.

    1. Ack! I love it! I’m totally delurking just so I can express my deep and utter LOVE for you and your fic. It’s amazing. Really. I’m almost embarassed to admit that I wait daily for it and check for it throughout the day. Anyway, it’s passionate, powerful, and so believable. Though the girls (and the other characters we’ve met) are so, so different from the girls on the show, you’ve done an amazing job of making their transformations and thoughts and actions so believable. LOVE IT! And update soon! Like, NOW!
