    Riley comes into her own, and Ouch.

     

    “Cmon. Let’s sit down”. She pulled Riley over to the couch and sat down, pulling the girl down next to her.

     

    “We.. we used to date” she started, feeling somewhat lame. It was a lame start. Riley raised an eyebrow, apparently agreeing with that silent assessment. “A long time ago, 10 years. God I loved her. I never thought I’d love someone that much. But I fucked up. Played head games I suppose. And things went pear shaped.”

     

    “So” said Riley, “Go fix it.”

     

    Ashley chuckled at the simplicity of the statement.

     

    “Riley” she said, growing serious again. “When I said it was complicated, I meant it. She…” She hesitated, her voice growing husky. “Spencer thinks I killed her brother.”

     

    For what seemed like an eternity, Riley didn’t reply. Just as Ashley began to get extra nervous, she heard the young girl speak,

     

    “Tell me.”

     

    And so she did. No more secrets, she poured out her heart. Everything she had felt, everything that had happened. When she was done, she felt drained and exhausted, like she’d run a marathon. She watched as Riley took it all in. She trusted this girl with her life. She was all the family she had. What if she was disgusted? What if this was too much? What..

     

    Riley interrupted her slightly hysterical thoughts.

     

    “So you slept with her last night”

     

    “yes”, admitted Ashley.

     

    “Why?”

     

    Ashley raised a quizzical eyebrow.

     

    “You know, I coulda sworn you knew all about that stuff already..”

     

    She was rewarded with a thwack from a cushion.

     

    “I mean, why, if.. if Spencer was that mad at you, how did it happen.”

     

    “I don’t know” said Ashley, who had been wondering the same thing. “I guess being mad at someone doesn’t always change your feelings about everything.”

     

    “Do you still love her?” Ashley had been expecting this one.

     

    “Yes. I never stopped.”

     

    “Then go after her.” Riley said, urgently. “Go, go fix this, you can do it.”

     

    “I’m not sure I can Ri, even after last night. Or because of last night. I’m not sure…” Ashley trailed off.

     

    “What have you got to lose” Riley added, her voice thick. “She either hates you now, and there’s no chance. Or you get to explain things.. and make something of it. Ash, she.. she wouldn’t have slept with her if she really hated you.”

    1. Ack! I love it! I’m totally delurking just so I can express my deep and utter LOVE for you and your fic. It’s amazing. Really. I’m almost embarassed to admit that I wait daily for it and check for it throughout the day. Anyway, it’s passionate, powerful, and so believable. Though the girls (and the other characters we’ve met) are so, so different from the girls on the show, you’ve done an amazing job of making their transformations and thoughts and actions so believable. LOVE IT! And update soon! Like, NOW!
