Good-Bye
"It’s alright Ty. It’s okay…Let it out honey."
I buried my face in my hands. I felt someone ruffle the tuft of hair on my head. (I never had that much hair, Mom made fun of it alll the time, but my girlfriend still thinks I’m hot so what ever)
Aunt Ky was standing next to me.
"She just got home…"
Yeah. I looked at Mom again. Aaron had bent over her and kissed her on the forehead. He mumbled his good-byes and left the room wiping his eyes. Aunt Chelsea got up and followed him. Grandma got up and patted Mom’s chest and said good-bye. She left. Passion walked over to the side of the bed and held Mom’s hand. I wondered if it was cold or not.
"See ya later Ash."
She put her hand back down and sniffled. Wiping her eyes on the back of her sleeves, she walked out of the room too. It made me wonder why everyone was leaving. So, I asked.
"Mommy, where’s everyone going?"
"They’re going to take her out at 6 o clock honey. They just don’t want to see her get in the…"
Her voice trailed off. She was going to say body bag. I didn’t need her to finish her sentence to know that. I’ve heard that it’s hard to see someone you love go into one of those things and that no one wanted to be around when it happened. Aunt Ky bent over the bed and kissed her sisters’ forehead. Then she left. It was just me and my parents now.
"I’m gonna go now okay? I..I can’t…"
I understood. My parents loved each other with all their hearts. It was in their eyes. The way they walked. The way they talked. Just..everything they did they did for each other. No matter who(stupid Charlie and those random girls Mom had) or what tried to pull them apart. I admired that love. Mommy is going to hurt for the rest of her life. She’s so young..But I guess Charlie..(ugh.) What ever. I know Charlie better not try anything until after Mom is buried. Anytime before that is just plain RUDE. Anyway, back to the love, I know it makes me sound like a pussy.. But if PJ and I ever had that kind of love, I’d die the happiest man in the world just knowing that I got a taste of it in my lifetime.
Mommy got up and bent over Mom. She kissed her forehead, her cheeks, her hair, and finally her lips. After holding their heads together for a second or two, she finally pulled away and left the room. Also, wiping the tears from her eyes.
No it’s just me. Here’s my chance to say good-bye.
I got up and breathed in deeply. Takng in the scent of my Mother. I ran my fingers through her hair. Touched her face(it was cold, knew it) and looked at her body. The cancer made her skinny..and dead. Can’t forget that. But in good thoughts, Mom was a beautiful woman. I’ll never be able to repay her for what she’d done for me. I’ll never be half the person she was. (the good person, not the bad one that reared it’s ugly head every now and then.) I’m going to make her proud.
I heard footsteps down the hallway.
Better make it quick.
I picked up Mom’s hand and leaned over the railing. A few tears fell on her face as I kissed her cheek. I whispered my Good-bye into her ear.
