Grow Old With Me – (Chapter: Hershey’s, Part Deux)

“You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me,” I groaned, when I opened my door and there stood my father.

“Hi Ashley,” he said, holding a bag of something. “I was hoping we could, you know, talk a little. I brought bagels.”

“Whatever,” I mumbled, moving aside so he could come in. Why prolong the inevitable?

“Nice place you got here.” He wasn’t looking, but I rolled my eyes because I felt like I should.

“Uh huh. Why don’t we cut right to the point. What do you want?”

“I want to call a truce. I realize that what I did was fuckin’ stupid and-“

“Wait, which thing you did? Abandoning me, or trashing me on national television?” I interrupted sarcastically. He sighed and looked down.

“I didn’t mean to ‘trash’ you, Ashley. I was frustrated that you weren’t responding when I tried to get in touch with you and I didn’t know what else to do.”

    “That’s no fucking excuse.”

    “I know. And I’m sorry.”

“Whatever. Not like I haven’t heard that one before,” I replied.

“Alright, look, Ashley. I know I’ve been the shittiest parent a kid could ask for, okay? I know. I sucked. I still do suck. I was never there, when I was, I wasn’t actually there…. I know. But I want things to change. And I want you to give me that chance,” he said.

“You have some nerve asking me to give you another chance…” I began as the tears filled my eyes. “Do you have any idea what it felt like as a kid to see her father 10 days a year, max? Or to know that for the past year and a half, that same asshole hasn’t even tried to be in touch with his daughter? I needed you… so many times. So many times. And you weren’t fucking there!” My tears were flowing pretty steadily now. “I’m sick of waiting for you to get your fucking act together! It’s not fair. You’re not fair.”

“I know Ashley, and I want to make it up to you.”

“No! You don’t know, and you don’t have the fucking right to come here, wanting to make it up to me. I’m sick and tired of all of your bullshit. I’m done. Please… just leave.”

    “Ashley, don’t-“

    “Get out!” I cried.

    “Please-“

“I’m gonna call the fucking cops! GET OUT!” I yelled. And he did. The resonance of the door closing echoed around the room, which now seemed so empty. I took the bag of bagels he left and threw it across the room, struck by my ability to hit one of the few breakable items in the room. The shards of glass scattered across the room but I didn’t care. I crumpled onto the floor, crying.

    1. You know, I just read this story from beginging to end in the last few days. I just wanted to say thank you for posting because I’ve been glued to this story. The first part with Ash cheating on Spencer with Stella after Spencer left her family was intense. And so was their reunion. Everytime they agrued, broke up and made up, I blushed the whole time reading. You charcterize Ashley and Spencer to the point. And I love how you internalize their feelings. This is what I’d like to see on screen because its so intense. Sometimes, I felt like I was reading a normal everyday conversation between my gf and I. Please keep updating the chapters. I’d like to see them get past the distance in their relationship and have a family. I think Spencer would be a great mom and I think Ash WANTS to be a great parent but, I don’t know. Anyway, I got a late start but, I love this WHOLE story so please keep posting. pls pls pls

    2. *bows down* YOU ARE A FRIGGEN GOD!!! how I love thee!!! geesh man…I dont have the right words to even begin to say how encredible you are..just..GAH! seriousely..ur excellent and bloody fantastic!!! PMS..;) please that is!!

Ah this chapter. excellent. the boys were funny here. and i like that Ash is finally getting out her emotions. I would talk more, but the sixth leg of my marathon is waiting. ta ta *swishes away with cape a-flying*

    4. Wow. You definately hit a nerve with just about every emotion that my body knows how to use with this update. I know I shouldn’t want Ash to make up with her dad, cuz he sure as hell doesn’t deserve it, but from what this season of SON has taught us…life’s too short!! But still, she has every right to be as cautious as she has been! I can’t wait to see where you take this!!
