    Explain.

               

                A burning sensation tears through my insides and a searing pain pierces my heart as I look into her eyes and see it.

     

                Regret.

     

                “Look Spencer,” I fumble with my words, trying desperately to soothe both of our aching hearts, “I wish I could tell you that I’m sorry it happened,” she looks at me curiously, the pain in her eyes easing ever so slightly, “but the truth is that I’m not.”

     

                “Ash, I…”  She begins shaking her head, but I cut her off.

     

                “No Spence, I have to say this.”  I am surprised by my resolve. It makes me wonder if I actually knew what I was going to say then developed amnesia, because I have no idea what I “have” to say.  “I….I just….I….,” my fingers have become particularly interesting and I stare at them as if the words to my answer are written on them; I am just stumbling over their pronunciation.

     

                “You don’t have to do this Ash, what happened last night meant a lot to me.”

     

                “Spence, I can see it in your eyes.  You regret last night.  You wish it hadn’t happened, because now Jesse is going to be hurt.  You don’t-”.  She puts her finger to my lips and whispers a soothing ‘shhhhh’.

     

                “I don’t regret what happened, because of Jesse.”  Confusion must be apparent on my face and a small chuckle escapes her lips.

     

                “What do you mean?”  It would be nice to be in on the joke, because my insides are churning as she sits before me seemingly amused by my ignorance.

     

                “Ash,” she takes my hands in hers and gives them the lightest squeeze, “What I regret is that I live 3,000 miles away.  What I regret is that I can’t spend every minute of my life with you from this point on.”  Shaking my head in disbelief, I am silently requesting an explanation that she seems unwilling to forfeit.  

               

                “But….what about….”

     

                “Jesse and I broke up about a month ago.”

     

                “You what?!!”  I respond in practically a scream with eyes bulging and mouth dropping heavily onto the bed.  This is one of those moments you unknowingly spend a lifetime waiting for.  The world seems to exist solely to provide you and only you with joy and meaning; where the heart sings and the soul takes flight.

Rather than clean my house, I jump online and surf for a while… I think “I’ll check out SONonline” and wander the message boards for a while.. then I think “I’ll check out the Fanfic, see if Caseygurl is back yet”. I don’t really believe that I’ll find a new part of Growing Up.. I mean, it’s been so long… not one post.. TWO new posts… 2 new, never-before-read-by-me chapters to a caseygurl story!!Hence.. procrastination is a good thing.I’ve said it before.. but I LOVE the way you write.I’m hoping that this story isn’t actually all done now… but if it were to end here, that’d be okay, since we got a fitting ending.[PLEASE DO NOT END THE STORY HERE!]

I have to go and add some kind of token to the altar I made to you. Do you want a plant or animal sacrifice?
