    This Is How A Heart Breaks

    Step Two

     

    “And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.” The group finished their prayer, eyes lifting from the ground. Spencer sat more upright in her seat, knowing they were going to be dismissed soon and eager to get out of there.

    It had been 8 weeks since she’d first arrived here, and today was the day she was finally going home. These past weeks had been excruciating, but at this point nothing really fazed her. She had this hollow look about her, like someone who’d had the spirit taken right out of them. Or in her case, prayed out of them. At first she’d been hard set in her ways, arguing with the counselors or storming out of group, but eventually she gave in. It was like when you hear a song you hate so many times it ends up growing on you. Spencer now wanted to believe she’d been cured. She wanted to believe she could lead a ‘normal’ life, get married and have kids. She wanted to be happy and fall in love with some prince charming.

    A small bell chimed and the group was excused. Spencer followed the surge out the door, eyes downwards as she hurried along. In some ways she dreaded going home. She’d have to face her mom, and even worse, she’d have to face Ashley. The girl didn’t know if she could stand looking into those brown eyes and saying good-bye, and she knew Ashley wouldn’t understand her reasons. But she was changed now, cured. Or at least that’s what people kept assuring her.

    “Spencer Carlin, Holly Kite, and David Greene please report to the front office. Your bus has arrived.” The call over the loud speaker jarred Spencer from her thoughts and spurred her into motion. She’d already changed back into her regular clothes, her jeans fitting her hips loosely. Apparently she’d lost a bit of weight during her stay, but that wasn’t too much of a shock to her. The majority of the time she just felt too nauseous to eat.

    2. Damn….I don’t know what to think. I mean, I am mad at Spencer, but not really…I despise Paula, yet still feel something….I think the only thing I am for sure of is the fact that I feel sorry for Ashley…I hope somebody helps Spencer out and soon before she withers away…pms

    4. i really hate paula, there are so many emotions that come to the surface, like you want to scream and yell and cry at the same time, i feel so bad for ash and spencer….spencer for sure cuz she isn’t the same girl anymore..paula was the real person who took her daughters innocense away not ashley
