    “Why are you here?”  She is annunciating every word with nothing but anger.  “Did you wake up one morning and say ‘You know, I don’t think I messed Ashley up enough five years ago, just for kicks let me go see if I can do more damage’?  Did you think it might be fun to see how far I would go for you this time?”

     

                “No.”  I was defeated.  My hope was fading.  I was no longer optimistic.  I am not even sure what the right move is.  Do I fight and possibly do more damage to her already fragile heart?  Or do I let her walk away for her own good?  Does she want me to just let her go?  I am not sure I can.  “I wanted to make things right.”

     

                “For who, you?  Let me guess you saw my CD, listened to it a couple times, realized the error of your ways and you couldn’t live with the guilt. So you tracked me down, expecting me to forgive you and drop my life.  Then after that we would ‘run through the sunflower field with harps playing in the background’, right?  This is not some movie with a guaranteed happy ending Spencer, this is real life.”

     

                “I came here, because I was missing a piece of my heart.  I came here ready to fight for something I should never have let go.  I came here, because I never stopped loving you.”

     

                “It’s all about you.”

     

     “No!  I came here, because when I listened to your songs, I truly believed that you still loved me.  I thought that if there was a chance that you still loved me, I could somehow find a way to make you happy again, whatever it takes.”

     

                “Why are you lying to me?”

     

                “I’m not lying!  Lying about what?”  I am panicked by her accusation.

     

                “You came ready to fight?  Well tell me Spencer; where would we be right now if I didn’t come looking for you two nights ago?  You would have been on the first flight back to New York.”

     

                “That’s not true.”

     

                “Oh its not?  You took one look at me with someone else and gave up.  That is not willing to ‘do whatever it takes’.”  She uses air quotes and an insulting tone.  “Then on top of everything else, you get mad at me for having a life now.  You walked out on me again this morning, when my agenda didn’t fit neatly into your plan.”  She pauses for a minute to think.  I just continue looking down; absent mindedly pulling at a rebel thread escaping from the blanket.  “I wanted to talk before we went any further physically.  I just was not ready to give that to you.  But I was willing to try.  I was willing to try and make it work with you.”  Her voice is calm, but it is a remorseful calm. I notice the change in tone and it breaks me from my trance.  I look up and I see her pull both lips inside her mouth trying to steady the emotion. I silently hope she is not going where I think she is going with this.  “And now, I realize that’s just not possible.  I don’t know if I will ever stop loving you, but I do know that I can not be with you.”

    4. Ouch…is this going to have a Spahley ending or is it completely over? I dont kno if I can read this if there is absolutely no hope for them to get back together. It hurts too much. My heart breaks for both of them.

Is it really over or will love triumph???…I’m angsting over my honey’s dissertation. While I like to be supportive, I could use a different type of angst…so Puleeeeze update soon
