                “Ashley, please!  I don’t want to let you go again.  I made that mistake once and I am paying the price.  I have to live everyday, knowing that I caused you so much pain.  I just want to show you that you are worth more to me than you could ever imagine.  I want to make you feel, how you made me feel, everyday for those seven years.”  I turn onto my knees and hold both of her hands in mine.  “But I can only do that if you let me.”  She looks down and starts crying, she whispers something I can not understand.  “What?”

     

                “I can’t.”  She looks me straight in the eyes as she says it.

     

                “Okay.  I will leave you alone.  I will pack my things and walk out of your life forever, but you have to swear to me that this is what is going to make you happy.  I cost you so much happiness already, if me being out of your life helps you find it again, I will do that for you.  But promise me.  Promise me that there is no hope if I stay.”  I continue holding her hands and she thinks about what I said.  Tears still stream down her cheeks, as she stares at me.  I can not read anything in her eyes.  I begin to wonder if I will actually be able to leave if she asks.  I feel her hands pull away from mine and I reluctantly let them go.  She reaches to the back of her neck with both hands and unclasps the necklace.  She is going to ask me to put the ring on her and tears of joy form in my eyes.  She holds one end of the chain and slides it off the other.  She holds it out slightly for me.  I open my hand palm up.  She presses the cool metal band into my skin and I close my hand on her fingers gently.  She looks me in the eyes for a second, still not moving away.  I savor the warmth of her hand and I can not be happier in this moment. 

     

    “I promise.”  Her hand retreats and she stands up.  She picks up her shoes and walks away with her arms folded across her chest and head hanging.  I stare at her receding figure; my mind frantically trying to absorb reality.

    4. Ouch…is this going to have a Spahley ending or is it completely over? I dont kno if I can read this if there is absolutely no hope for them to get back together. It hurts too much. My heart breaks for both of them.

Is it really over or will love triumph???…I’m angsting over my honey’s dissertation. While I like to be supportive, I could use a different type of angst…so Puleeeeze update soon
