    A continuation from the finale of (A Story). Finals are taken, hearts are breakin’, and feelings are mistaken.

    Spencer stood, and grabbing Lindsay’s hand, she allowed herself to be guided to class.

     

    * * * * *

     

    “Fuck…fuck…fuck…fuck!” Ashley screamed as she threw down her Philosophy book angrily.

    “Wow,” Erin said as she entered the room, “what did it do to you?”

    “It’s killing me,” the brunette said sadly as she buried her head in her hands.

    “Ash…” Erin began as she walked towards her girlfriend, “between you and me, I think you could take him. And I’m not just saying that for your ego.”

    Ashley laughed a little bit before she remembered what had caused her so much frustration in the first place.

    “No, you don’t understand. That book is standing between me passing and failing my Philosophy class. I’m straddling, Erin, ok? And I’m going to be incredibly depressed if I fail this class. It’s been kicking my ass for months now.”

    “Ok, listen, first you need to calm down. This isn’t the end of the world. It’s a final. And you’re going to do fine on it. You’ve been studying non-stop for like, a week or something.”

    “It may not be the end of the world for you, Erin, but for me it is.”

    “Fine, whatever. I hate it when you let Spencer do the talking for you.”

    “What are you talking about?” Ashley asked, momentarily forgetting about her looming exam.

    “Before you met her, you didn’t care about trivial stuff like this. You had fun, remember?”

    “I don’t understand what me wanting to study has to do with Spencer,” Ashley replied defensively.

    “Never mind, let’s just go get some lunch before everything gets crowded.”

    “No, don’t try to change the subject. What does this have to do with Spencer?”

    “Nothing, ok?! Nothing! Just forget I ever said anything. All I meant was…she’s like…she’s like your little voice of reason…your…” Erin paused as she thought of more comparisons, “the angel on your shoulder…your…”

    “And what are you?” Ashley asked, her eyebrow raised in amusement.

    Erin was silent for a moment before she closed the space left between her and the amused brunette, “I’m the devil on your shoulder. The one that’s unzipping your pants.”

    Spencer felt a wave of relief wash over her as she collapsed onto the bed she shared with Lindsay. For the first time in weeks she had a whole night of time—time that was completely unaccounted for. No papers to complete, no tests to study for, and no dates to memorize.
