North of Somewhere (A Story) – (Chapter: The Return)

“I’m so glad you’re here,” Ashley said, absently playing with Spencer’s hair.

    “I’m so glad you’re queer.”

“Spencer, that’s gotta be the worst joke you’ve ever made. Don’t get me wrong, you make a lot of bad ones, but that’s by far the worst.”

Spencer collapsed into a spasm of laughter, “You’re mean!”

    “I’m mean?”

“Totally mean,” Spencer answered, feigning offense.

Ashley quickly maneuvered her body until it was on top of Spencer’s.

“Let’s see how mean I am then,” Ashley said, her face suddenly serious as she moved her fingers to the bottom hem of Spencer’s tank top, slowly pulling it up and over her head.

Spencer swallowed hard, anticipating the moment she had convinced herself she was ready for.

“Is this ok?” Ashley asked quietly, her eyes dark and intense.

    “Yeah…yeah, it’s totally ok.”

“Ok,” Ashley answered, giving Spencer a quick nod.

They kissed slowly, Ashley softly biting Spencer’s bottom lip before seeking Spencer’s tongue with her own. The more heated the kiss became, the more nervous Spencer grew, though she had been positive the opposite was supposed to happen.

Ashley’s hands made their way to the clasp of Spencer’s bra, pausing slightly before freeing Spencer of the fabric. Wanting Spencer to feel as comfortable as possible, Ashley began to unfasten her own bra as Spencer looked on in the partial darkness.

“Wait…”Spencer said nervously, grabbing Ashley’s hands.

“What? What’s up? You want me to stop?”

“No. I just…I want to do that…I mean, I should be the one to do that for you, right?”

Ashley raised her eyebrow before answering, “Spence, there’s no giant textbook of lesbian sex rules, therefore meaning there’s no chapter on ‘How To Undress Your Already Half Undressed Girlfriend With the Television On-For Beginners’, ok?” Ashley said laughing.

“Hey, I don’t know…”Spencer said, dropping her eyes from Ashley’s.

“Spencer, are you sure this is something you want to do?”

    “Yeah…I just….you’ve done this like, a million times…”

“Oh yeah, because let’s not forget for a second that I’m a huge, huge super slut,” Ashley interrupted with a smile.

You said it,” Spencer began, returning the smile, “it’s just that you’ve been with a lot of girls with a lot more experience. And I mean, look at me. I have no idea what to do or what to say or how to…I just….I don’t know.”

“Spencer, it’s not about experience. As you’ve reminded us both, I’ve got lots of that and I’m still nervous about being with you. It’s our first time. It’s new for both of us, right?”

    “Right….yeah, I guess so…” Spencer replied hesitantly.

“Well, I know so. Here,” Ashley said, extending her hand towards Spencer.

“What do you want me to do with that?” Spencer asked confused.

“I’m going to try my best not to make jokes about that last statement, first of all, because I can tell you’re not in the mood. Secondly, I want you to grab it…..Grab it!”

“Is this some kind of trick?”

“Oh my God, grab the fucking hand, Spencer or I’m going to make you eat that popcorn.”

“Ok!” Spencer said, grabbing Ashley’s hand and holding it in her own, “what’s your point?”

“I’m shaking. I’m a wreck, Spence. It’s pretty obvious. And no one has ever made me shake like that before.”

“You should probably cut down on the caffeine,” Spencer smiled, her fingers sliding between Ashley’s.

“Well, that could be true. But that wasn’t really the point I was trying to get across.”

“Hey, I get it. We’re both nervous wrecks. What should we do?”

For maybe the second or third time in her life (half of which involved Spencer) Ashley didn’t have the answer.

“Great. I was sorta counting on you here, Ash.”

“We’ll figure something out,” Ashley said, nodding.

“Sounds like a plan,” Spencer replied in a mocking tone.

Then a look of sudden realization spread over Ashley’s face.

“You want to go get in the pool?”
