Just ‘cause you can’t hear me that doesn’t mean I’m not screaming’…very sad, but poetic…I like it.” Ashley tells Spencer as she looks into her eyes.

“Thanks it’s from a poem I wrote.” She says also looking in Ashley’s eyes.

“Cool…um…this is kind of off topic, but you’re so different from other people…you’ve got all this shit going on in your life, but you’re still a really sweet girl! How’s that possible?” Ashley wonders.

“I didn’t used to be… Use to be a jerk.” Spencer Admits.

“Why? …Was it just who you were at the time, or because people picked on you, or because some girl hurt you too bad?” Ashley wonders.

“Kind of all of the above, but ironically, it took a girl hurting me to change me into the sweet girl talking to you right now.” She tells a very intrigued yet confused Ashley.

“Awww, what happened?” Ashley asks empathetically.

“I was in Middle School. It was before I was on the right meds, certainly way before my depression was under anything that could even remotely be called control. I was having an especially shitty day. This girl named Marie asked me what was wrong…At the time I was depressed about not having a girlfriend. So, I said something like; ‘because no girl in the entire school would ever go out with me’… I know it sounds immature, but I wasn’t myself…Imagine my surprise when she said she’d go out with me…Too bad it wasn’t real…She lied when she said she liked me…Her best friend told me she was only dating me because she felt sorry for me…” Spencer recalls.

“Awww, that’s awful!” Ashley says sadly.

“Most people might not see that as the life changing experience it was, but when you spend your life using twice the energy as normal people to do the things they do on a regular basis…hoping to be accepted as one of them it is. So, that’s why I decided never to make anyone feel the way Marie made me feel.” Spencer continues.

“It sucks that you had to go through that, but I’m glad if it made you the way you are now!” Ashley smiles, then her curiosity shifts her back into question mode. “So…people have always treated you different?” Ashley wonders.
