I was sitting in the locker room with my coat on keeping my arm warm, my Ipod in my ears just listening to music loud enough so I was in my own zone.

I hadn’t been letting my personal life with Spencer and Becca affect my game just because my dad always told me to never let my personal life judge the skill I provide for the game…we’re at our last game we could play at home this season with our season rival Wickliff playing against us.

This was just the start of keeping our undefeated record…I was ready just like I had been every game.

We took the field minutes later…I took my ten warm up pitches all fast balls right down the middle to gain my zone. Their first batter steps up…strike one, she takes a walk off the mound shaking her head in approval of the call, she steps into the box again…strike two…her coach yells at her to focus and hit this one, and to watch for a changeup, good thing Tony taught me the horse shoe pitch.

I take the sign for the lower right corner…and the batter catches it adjusting her stance…wrong move. I wind up and release, the ball starts at the right corner then curves up to the upper left for strike three. That was just the beginning. We ended up making district finals winning 4-0 and I held my no hitter…after the game I had a bunch of people talking to me and a few small local colleges, but once we won district finals and played for states…that’s when I’d start listening to those division one college scouts.

After I left the locker room Spencer was waiting for me around the door

“walking me to my car?” I asked her then she gave me a hug

“no hitter huh? You know…watching you pitch so good was kind of a turn on…” she told me. I still craved hearing her talk like that

“yeah? I’ll keep that in mind for districts…” I told her smiling

“so…where’s the girlfriend?” she asked me

“um…I have no idea” I told her “was she at the game?” I asked

“yeah she was…” she told me

“hm…” I replied simply

“I mean…I can walk you to your car…” she said
