“Ya don’t gotta know right now….  Just…  I like Spencer…  I don’t want to see her get hurt.”  Aiden put in.  Then a stray thought went to Madison and Aiden remembered the moment in the back of the car.  He hated himself for what he’d done with Madison.

            “You think I want to see her get hurt?  No.”  Ashley shot back.  “Ok, I really do care about her.”

            “Good.”  Aiden stated.  “You deserve someone like her.”

            “Yeah?”

            “Yeah.”  Aiden stated.  Pointing back to the screen, “Now get that deserving ass back to work.”

             Spencer sat on the couch; arms crossed in defiance, her blue eyes staring down at the carpet.  Her parents sat in silence across from her in separate chairs.  The silence was heavy.  No one knew exactly where to start.  So instead, they sat in silence.  Finally, Spencer stood. 

            “I’m going to my room.” 

            “Sit down.”  Paula said in a commanding voice.  Spencer sat back in the exact same spot.  She could feel the warmth beneath her. 

            “Spencer your mother and I don’t know where to start.”

            “Yes, I do.  We are starting with you being unable to see Ashley.  You will come home after school.  If we have too, we’ll pick you up.”

            “Paula!”  Arthur almost shouted.  She looked hotly at her husband. 

            “Are you telling me we should allow this?”  Paula stated. 

            “I am saying we should discuss this.  To hear Spencer out about what her feelings are about this.”

            “Thank you Dad.”  Spencer said softly.  She and her mother were miles apart when it came to what Spencer wanted and what Paula wanted for Spencer.

            “Absolutely not.  You are 16 years old.  You live under our roof….”

            “A roof that you shouldn’t be under.  You’re cheating on Dad.”

            “That has nothing to do with this.”  Paula hissed.

            “It has everything to do with it.  Mom.”  Spencer said steadfastly.  “I want to be with Ashley.  If I’m not with her now, when I go away to college, far, far away…”  Spencer stated, “It will just be another girl.”
