Thursdays – (Chapter: Tears and Apologies)
A devilish grin spread across Paula’s face. But this was not the adorable smile that was always plastered to the brunette’s face. No, this was an evil smirk. One that hid plots and scams. Behind those annoying white teeth, was a mind full of self-absorption and the need for a perfect image.
“Great. Let’s go.”
A few minutes later and they were on their way. For the majority of the walk to the restaurant, Aaron hid behind Paula like a child fearful of his older sibling. He probably had good reason too, for Spencer wasn’t sure if she could’ve contained herself if the boy would have been within reach. She was desperate to inflict as much pain on him as possible.
Lunch was awkward and quiet. Paula attempted to make light conversation every once in a while, but failed miserably. Spencer didn’t speak, because at the moment, anything she would’ve said would lead into an argument, and Aaron seemed too nervous to do anything but eat. Finally, when the silence became unbearable, Spencer quickly stood, slamming her fork and napkin down on the plate, and causing a huge *clank* to resonate throughout the restaurant. She glared at her mother, burning holes through the other woman.
“I’m fed up with this.” And with that, she was gone.
The blonde soon found herself speed walking down the street. She was livid, and her body shook in anger. Suddenly though, she heard a voice behind her.
“Spencer! Wait up…please. Spencer!” She turned around, finding Aaron quickly running after her. Not wanting anything to do with him, Spencer turned back around and continued walking.
“Please Spencer wait.” After a few more seconds, Aaron finally caught up. He reached out and touched her shoulder, stopping the blonde in her tracks.
“I’m sorry.”
“Sorry? Sorry for what? Not being polite and speaking at the table,” Spencer stated sarcastically.
Aaron looked at her with one of those you know what I mean looks. “For everything.” It was such a simple statement. One that couldn’t even begin to make up for past times, yet still held so much power and meaning behind it. Not sure about anything, Spencer just stood there, silent and expecting.
