“No, I've known before Bella even knew,” Seer interrupted Carlisle. “I'll explain in better detail when the pack gets here.”
“What? Jake and the others are coming here?” Bella asked, not really wanting to endanger everyone so suddenly. It was probably for the best, though, thinking about it. At least this way, the story would only have to be told once.
“Yeah, they'll be here in…3…2…1…”
KNOCK! KNOCK!
As everyone had been so focused on Seer, the knocks startled even the vampires. Now that they were knocked from the stupor this strange child put them in, the smell of mutt permeated their noses easily. Bella sighed and silently cursed her bad luck yet again. Why did these things always happen to her?
She opened the door to see Sam's clenched jaw and glaring eyes staring at her. Behind him, the rest of the pack were also present, glaring and clearly uncomfortable being in the presence of vampires. They hated the leeches, but they couldn't attack the vampires in Bella's home. Even if they didn't care for the girl, Charlie was still a friend of Sam's and Billy's.
“Good, you guys are here,” Seer said, stepping out from Bella's side. “Come in, and I suggest getting comfy. It's going to be a long story.”
“I think we should come back later,” Sam growled, looking at Carlisle from his vantage point. The vampires jaws were also clenched, equally hateful glares on each of their faces – even the normally sweet Alice's. Bella shook her head and resisted the urge to sigh again.
“I said,” Seer said quietly, clenching her fist and moving her arm back, “get in!”
The werewolves weren't sure what happened, but it was as though a giant hand had taken hold of them and pulled them inside the house. The door closed on its own, and when Embry tried to open it again, it wouldn't budge.
“W-what the hell are you?” Sam asked, glaring at Seer suspiciously. She didn't smell like death, so she wasn't a bloodsucker, but she didn't seem quite human either.
“To be completely honest,” Bella answered with a shrug, “no one really knows. But an old friend of mine called her a Great One.”
Jacob looked at Bella, feeling his breath catch. It had been so long since he'd seen her, and though he still remembered her in perfect detail, seeing her again was like seeing beauty for the first time in his life. Edward heard those thoughts and focused his glare on Jacob, who, sensing the stare, glared back fiercely.
