When Lovers become Strangers – (Chapter: Part 1)
Blair stood in the same spot for a few good minutes as her mind tried to process the appearance of Jo. Had she been a ghost? A dream? But the card she held in her hand explained the opposite; it read that she was a Captain and a stationed a block away from her office. Blair smiled as she realized that Jo had accomplished what she had set out years before hand though without her by her side. Jo had survived and evidently well enough to have her own life. Blair’s heart dropped as she realized Jo never needed her; maybe she had in fact held her back.
Jo had smiled all the way to the elementary school where she waited for her son to emerge from the doors. Brody Halford was a precocious six year old boy whose blue eyes reminded Jo of her late husband. Bryan was on his way from a late night surgery when he was struck by a drunk driver, which was ironic as he had spent the better part of the night saving a drunk driver. Jo was the first on scene as her partner had just left a homicide scene and driving along when they noticed the accident. It wasn’t until they stopped and Jo hopped out of the car that she noticed it was their vehicle and she ran to her husband’s side and he died in her arms. Although tragic she had a sense of relief and peace that he died with her by his side. There was no regret in that aspect and after a year of grieving she thought she needed to put another ghost to rest, Blair Warner.
As Jo and her boy went home her cell phone rang and she could not hide the smile as she noticed it was from Blair. She had kept the same number, perhaps she thought Jo would call one day. “Hello”. Blair was taken aback how one word could send her heart racing. “Jo, could we meet?” Blair thought being forward was best as Jo seemed to have changed. “Sure, at my place.” Jo gave her the address and started to clean up after she hung up. “Brody, we are having a guest and I need you to be on your best behavior.” The little boy smiled at his mother. Jo could not resist grabbing him for a tickle session. He grabbed her face and kissed her, “I love you Mommy.” It was moments like this that she thanked Blair for her indiscretion. As she started to think about her life and how it panned out post-Blair the doorbell rang.
