    She was lucky to have been this successful by the time she was twenty five. Most authors weren’t published until they were dead or they weren’t published at all. Spencer had already had four books published and was on the way to delivering a fifth installment of her popular murder mystery series. The girl worked a lot. She hardly ever slept. Not only was she successful but she was also beautiful. Spencer had long blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes that could burn a hole right through someone if she concentrated hard enough. Her tan skin and good complexion, were just bonuses to her sweet personality and perfect manners. She was the ultimate woman. Unfortunately, she was the ultimate single woman. She’d never been able to keep a relationship steady because no one really understood her or her work. But for Spencer, that was fine. The work had always come first and she’d never met anyone special enough to compromise.

               

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    The blonde looked outside at the darkening sky and frowned when she saw the thunderclouds building up. She’d hated thunderstorms since she was a small girl. Growing up in Kansas, she’d had to face way too many tornados and although she’d been fine, she still hated storms. Bright lightning flashed across the sky and Spencer cringed waiting for the boom of thunder. However, it never came. The sky blazed with jagged slivers of the brightest lightning she’d ever seen but the thunder never came. She finally was able to look away from the window and she continued to sign the books for her customers. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted someone moving.

               

     

     

     

     

    A petite brunette dressed in nothing but a sports bra and some spandex shorts stood there staring wide eyed at the bookstore. She ran her hands over the bindings and Spencer noticed that she was also barefoot. It was as if she’d come out of nowhere. Putting her pen on the table she followed the brunette, intrigued by the simple nature of the girl. As a writer, she loved to study people and she watched as the young woman observed everything. A minute later she spun around her dark eyes coming to rest on Spencer. She opened her mouth like she was going to speak but not a sound came out.

               

     

     

     

     

     

    “What year is it?” Her voice was barely audible. Not even close to being a whisper but Spencer heard her. The brown eyes of the other girl looked frightened and exhilarated all at the same time.

               

     

     

     

     

     

     

    “2007.” Spencer answered. Not even two seconds later the brunette’s eyes rolled back into her head and she collapsed into the blonde’s arms.
