    The night is too dark, too spacious, too quiet, and you’re not there to hold me.

    The sounds that once filled the parking lot; the distant music and voices, the low hum of passing cars, the sickening nuances of bones cracking and grunts of exertion… were replaced by a deafening silence. It hung in the air, surrounding and suffocating anyone who willingly stood in its grasp with firm fingers of intensity and uncertainty. It would have been frightening if she could’ve felt anything besides this vehement ferocity.

    Ashley had heard of blind rage before, she’d even seen it in action. The vacant expression in someones eyes, the muscles twitching in expectation, the tragically beautiful color of crimson blood when they finally let go; It had all scared her initially, but then she learned to appreciate it. It offered distance, a buffer between responsibility for your actions and those who received the brunt of your violence. How can you be blamed for having no control over your body?

    In the back of her mind, she wished she was having one of those moments. A voice was screaming, pleading to let it itself shut down so it wouldn’t have to deal with the repercussions later, the inevitable guilt along with the detestable satisfaction, but it simply wouldn’t. That didn’t mean that it couldn’t shut out the rest of the world, which it did.

    It was no longer Ashley, Aiden, and Dano crowding around a bloody pulp of a human being in a horribly lit parking lot at some God awful time of night. No. It was just Ashley, the gun, and the sack of shit that had hurt the one person she cared about the most in life. More than herself, more than her music, more than anyone she had ever felt emotion for. Her Spencer. Her guardian angel that touched down from a place where things like this would never happen to anyone. Where innocence was something you maintained throughout your teenage life. Where the wings of angels couldn’t be broken by the mite of mortal men. She had come to the City of Demons and gave her – a girl so worthless of anyones time or affection – a reason to smile, to get up in the morning, to live for.

    But this… this thing… no longer a person but an incarnation of the foulest evil, had tainted that purity far more than she herself ever could. He didn’t deserve to live. She wouldn’t let him breathe a moment longer. ‘I’ll see you in hell.’
