    “No.”

    She kept pulling the trigger back, each click as loud as a sonic boom fueled her desperation to end his worthless life. The sounds echoed in her mind, click click click, “FUCK.”

    The two of them watched on, not knowing whether it was appropriate to feel relieved. He deserved to die, that wasn’t a question but Ashley wasn’t the one to end his life. Perhaps neither were they.

    Taking a cautious step towards her, Aiden reached out with a trembling hand, he had to end this somehow, things had spiraled out of control. Without saying a word, his hand slipped around the barrel of the gun, gripping it firmly. He felt resistance, she didn’t want to let go, didn’t want to fail, and he understood but he couldn’t let it happen this way. This sort of justice, the more extreme version of what he dealt out for so long, it just didn’t seem right to him.

    Finally, he felt the weapon go limp in her hand and he gently slipped it out of her grasp. ‘She looks so… tired.’ and he knew she was. They all were. The three of them were 17 year olds, just kids, and already they were playing God; deciding whether to end a life or not. It seemed so fucking surreal, but it was happening.

    Dano watched as her friend for so long, the one who kept such a strong front but was so torn inside, finally relented and broke down. Her delicate hands covered her face and muffled a heartbreaking scream that made her body wrack with sobs. It hurt so much to see her like that. More than those times she watched her drink herself into a stupor to dull the pain that was so evident in those lost looking brown eyes. She felt so empty.

    Aiden turned towards her and offered back her tool of retribution. She never intended it to be used that way. It was for protection. A safety precaution for the dangerous life she lived, but that didn’t matter anymore. It came so close, too close. She watched as the chrome glinted menacingly under the artificial light and took it from his hand, immediately slipping it under the waistband of her pants behind her back. It was cold and sent a repulsive shiver up her spine, but it was better that it was out of sight. ‘Out of sight, out of mind.’
