    Ashley’s Christmas Eve Surprise…

     

    “I know what you mean…But I guess we could always stop by in the afternoon?”  Kasey shrugged trying her best to cheer her friend up before Ashley’s big surprise.  Both girls sat silently in Spencer’s living room trying to think of a way to spend the holidays with the ones they loved from beginning to end.

     

    They didn’t have much time to formulate a plan considering tomorrow was Christmas day.  The Carlin residence was eerily quiet today however, her visiting family decided to do some last minute sight seeing.  Entirely caught up in their thoughts, Kasey and Spencer were spooked when suddenly the front door swung open and in entered a cheerful Paula.

     

    “Hi sweety.”  She greeted her daughter, letting her gaze drift over her dress and delicate tresses.  “Oh and why hello Kasey.”  She smiled brightly and shuffled to the couch, placing her shopping bags aside.  “Spencer, you look beautiful.”  Ashley had already explained her plan with Mrs Carlin, Paula agreed to keep a few hours clear for the couple to be alone until Santa visited later that night.

     

    “Hey mom.”  “Hello Mrs Carlin.”  Both girls replied looking slightly glum.

     

    “What’s wrong?”  Mother Carlin knowingly sighed taking a seat next to her daughter who was hunched over in deep thought.

     

    “She’s bummed…”  Kasey was slumped deeply into her seat eyeing the Carlins from afar.  “Oh, uh, I mean she’s disappointed.”  The brunette clarified as Paula gave her a confused look; brows furrowed.

     

    Paula hated seeing her daughter down especially during such a festive time of year.  “Ashley?”  One word summed it up quite well. Kasey simply nodded in response.  “Oh.”  Paula understood immediately.  She reached over and placed a hand gently over her daughter’s.

     

    “I have an idea.”  Spencer slowly raised her eyes to meet her mother’s caring gaze.  “Why don’t we wake up extra early to open the gifts so you can go over and spend the morning with her?  How does that sou-oomph!”  The young blonde pounced into her mother’s arms embracing her tightly before she could finish her delightful sentence.

     

    Kasey smiled as the two interacted.  “You would really do that for me mom?”  She asked her eyes closed from hugging incessantly.  “Yes honey, for you and Ashley.”  Spencer sighed contently; her mother, nay her family, accepted the love of her life and actually encouraged them to spend time with one another.

I actually listened to the Elton John song as I read along with the lyrics, which actually made me cry. Wow, your writing is quite simply breathtaking. One of my favorite lines: “No wine, huh?” Spencer grinned. ~ “I know Santa’s making an appearance later, I don’t want to amplify your chances of being on the naughty list tonight.” Ashley winked earning herself a playful tap on the arm before the two of them indulged. – Charming and cute!
