Bette didn’t have a lot going on that morning so she perused the resumes of the candidates for the art professor position and narrowed it to the top 3. She asked her assistant to schedule the interviews for Wednesday or Thursday of that week. She hoped to have a decision by the following week. Leigh Ostin was amongst the three that she wanted to talk to.

Since Bette had a break she decided to go through the mail that had come to the house while she was away. She took the stack from her briefcase and sorted through the usual assortment of bills and solicitations. Her movements froze when she came across a large envelope from the Peabody Foundation. She hadn’t seen Peggy Peabody in years and couldn’t imagine what this could be. They spoke on the phone and emailed periodically but any written communication would be addressed to Bette at CU because more often than not it was school related. Bette opened the flap of the large envelop and removed the cover letter which was hand-written on Peggy’s personal stationary.

    My dearest Bette,

I know this comes way too late as the damage is already done but please accept my personal and heartfelt apology for the pain and suffering caused you by my daughter Helena Peabody.

Helena’s employ at the Peabody Corporation was immediately terminated upon the discovery that she’d misappropriated company funds for personal gain; however it was only recently that we uncovered the extent of her malicious and criminal intent which included the malevolent actions against you; both personally and professionally.

Her defamation of character caused your involuntary release from the CAC and her involvement with Leigh Ostin resulted in breach of contracts which threatened your livelihood as an Art Consultant and damaged your stellar reputation in the art community. I know you’ve recovered beautifully and are now successful in your position as Dean of the School of Arts at CU but I cannot let this go without at least making an attempt to offer some restitution.

I realize that there is no monetary compensation that can put this to right and as family the formality of this offer seems incongruous but for legal reasons I am required to do it in this manner. I hope you will accept it in the spirit that it is intended. Enclosed you will find several legal documents that outline the Peabody Corporations’ settlement offer of three options to choose from:

    1. Welcome surprise after a working day!

I feel so sad for Peggy having a daughter like that, but she did mess up as a mother too.
But Helena, brrr…Don’t have words for her.

Wonder what option Bette will choose, my guess is the 51% ownership in the gallery. That is her true passion. But she should tell Tina about the offer right away.

      Thanks for the update!

    2. Another super post BAT, I love Peggy :)

Waiting for Bette’s choice and ‘betting’ – pun intended on the Gallery. Agree with Bibi28 that she should have told Tina before going home.

    3. BETTE needs to go see EMMA,bringing up old memories still has that type of effect on her needs to be talked out.THE choices before her could be the ultimate test for her and tina. Anything with gallery in it spells drama so spice it up with jodi/leigh.BUT let them have a romantic weekend before you pull the rug out from under them.pps

    4. Wow! I’m so touched that this post was in my honor! Thanks it was greatly appreciated! I got sick on the stomach at the stress test. I think it was from being not able to eat or drink anything for 8 hours before the test. That medicine they shot in the IV did it I’m sure. I have a very unusual stomach! Half way threw the test they let you eat a snack then you take the last part of the test. I made it home and took a nap! Then to wake up to this wonderful post! Thanks again and PPS!

    5. Yes Im goin with Bibi28 with the 51% ownership and the option to buy down the road. I also think if Leigh and Bette can bury the hatchet so can Helena eventually. Now Bette doesnt have to worry about where she can display all those up and coming artists. Now Bette has to share the news with Tina….

    6. Worshiping its history.
      I’m looking forward to
      the tour that will bette
      prepare for Tina.
      These coupons are very interesting.
