’What’s on your agenda?’ Erik shifted his attention, examining the somber strokes of The Artist’s House from the Rose Garden. The contrast between the darkness and the sun’s brilliance held an odd intensity.
Outside, the park bustled with leisurely visitors, the vibrant green grass and the trees filled with the brightest pink blossoms, their fragrance almost tangible. ’My wife is also on holiday,’ I continued, my thoughts flowing. ’she needs rest you know, so I was thinking to cook for her maybe, like those long dishes that take a lot of time, and maybe to take her for lazy strolls through Paris, maybe even with my aunt in the wheelchair on moments she feels strong enough. Also..’
Erik abruptly turned, hands clasped behind his back. ’I was referring to your work agenda.’
’Ow, uhm,’ A slight shake of my head accompanied a perplexed frown, ’besides the appointments at Les Beaux Arts with the potentials, I would have to check.’
His response was generous. ’It does sound like a quiet period for you, I’m confident Sylvie can handle your tasks; she’s been doing so for a while.’
Gratitude filled me. ”Thank you, that’s a relief. I’ll speak with her today and ensure a seamless handover. I’ll start my holiday tomorrow. I was thinking two, maybe three weeks.’
’I was thinking… ’ His voice lingered for 8 seconds. ’You’re fired Bette.’

’I wasn’t aware it was that bad,’ Tina sighed softly, a mix of regret and compassion filling her eyes after I had shared everything. We found ourselves nestled in the warm embrace of the living room, the soft glow of dimmed lights casting an intimate ambiance. The curtains swayed in the gentle breeze that flowed through the open French doors, bringing the essence of the Parisian night inside. She squeezed my knee as she continued, ’Maybe this might just be a good thing. You can take time and see what you really want.’
’Hmm, what I really want,’ I mused, sinking back into the plush pillows of the couch. With a slow swirl, my glass of red wine created a miniature whirlpool. ’That’s a good question.’
Tina took a sip of her wine, her eyes radiating unwavering faith in me. ’Let’s be honest, after seven years, you outgrew that museum anyway.’

What a beautiful end!
Well written story, i would like it if there were many more chapters.
Maybe a sequel?
Thank you so much for this story. I sincerely hope you both will write more!
Thank you so much for this story, even though I kept waiting for the other one to be finished, this was also a great solution. I felt like the original version was a bit more angsty than this one, but I’m not sure.
You write beautiful stories and I hope we can keep reading your work.
Loved this story❣️
Beautiful ending. Enjoyed your story.
I so enjoyed your story. The only thing I don’t like is that it is over.
