    6 Months- chapter 2

Bette had always assumed that Tina would always be there for her and that she would be there for Tina.  The option of that not being the case was never a consideration.  It was that fact, the knowledge that they would always be there for each other, regardless of the amount of work that they put into it, that was their ultimate demise.  They got too comfortable, taking each other and their love, for granted.  By the time that they lost the baby, it was nothing but another chip at their destructible armor that they had built around themselves.  Add to that a lack of communication, Bette’s infidelity, and the end result was disaster, a total oblivion of everything that they had known and cherished, a  train wreck waiting to happen.  Was Bette’s infidelity the last transgression that pushed them to their current state, yes, no question about it.  Was it the only transgression that got them to where they were, absolutely not.  Bette was aware of this but knew that Tina was no where close to being able to absorb what got them to this point.  Tina was not able to accept any blame for their split, all of the blame fell squarely on Bette’s shoulders.   And yet, Bette could not blame Tina for being unable to accept any responsibility in this.  As much as she knew that they were both to blame for what had happened, she also knew that she was the one that had strayed.  She was the one that had reached out to someone else, and brought them into their lives, ultimately to do nothing but destroy it.  Bette knew that she should accept a large portion of the blame, but all of it?  She did not think so.

The problem was getting Tina to listen to her and get her to acknowledge that they were on a path to disaster before Candace even entered the picture.

Bette knew that she had only one more attempt in her and if that failed, she would be left with no choice but to move on.  The move on that she had in mind was much more drastic than she had considered before Peggy’s call, but she also knew that there was a reason for everything, and that if things did not go as she would like them to with Tina, she would be left with no choice.  As much as it killed her, she would garner the strength and move on without Tina in her life and try to build something new.  She hated even considering that as an option, but knew that her life depended on this.  She had to become whole again, and just hoped that it could happen eventually with Tina by her side.
