A night at Milk
Alice jumped out first and dug the spare key out from my rose bush and let herself in as the rest of us stumbled out of the car. By the time we got in Alice had made herself a bed on the couch in the living room watching a black and white film, and cradled a beer. Shane made her way to what she deemed “her room”, Kit passed out in the second guest bedroom, and Dana and Lara passed out on the floor in the living room, Alice glaring at them. I led Tina to my room, where she instantly fell on my bed. I had no intentions of doing anything with her at all. I took her boots off and covered her with the blankets. I took my pillow off the bed and threw it on the floor, and I took a blanket out of the closet and wrapped myself in it.
“What are you doing,” Tina slurred.
“Going to sleep.”
“Why on the floor?”
“Well, you’re up there,” I said, that was the only explanation I could think of.
“Don’t be silly, get up here,” she said opening the blankets and patting the bed. Her eyes were half closed and I hesitated, “Bette.”
“Um, I don’t know.”
“Please,” she whined, even though I was drunk, I still had sense enough to know I shouldn’t do it, but I got into bed anyway. She laid on her right side and I just lay on my back, sleep starting to overcome my body.
“Cuddle me,” I faintly heard before I fell asleep.
I woke to blonde locks tickling my face; I smiled to myself as I realized it was not a dream. I felt my arms still wrapped around her. I tried to move as slowly as possible to not wake her, but it didn’t work. I felt her hands touching my arms and then in an instant, she stiffened. She got up quickly and looked around; I sat up and studied her. She was panicked and unaware of her surroundings.
“Tina?”
“What happened?”
“Nothing, we went out with the girls, danced and drank.”
“Where am I?”
“You’re at my house, you’re ok,” I said trying to talk her down.
“I need to go, I have to get home, Eric will,” she said and trailed off.
“It’s ok, I’ll take you home.”
We walked through the house, Dana and Lara still asleep on the floor cuddled up and Alice was passed out on the couch. Alice snores. We both got into my car and I started to back out. Tina put her seatbelt on and stared out the window. The awkward silence taking over the car was unbearable, but I was too scared to break it. I remembered where her house was, so she had no need to talk. The silence was agonizing and I didn’t want to leave it like this, but she left me no choice. She got out of the car and whispered thanks and shut the door. I was unsure of what to do from there. Should I go see if she was ok, or should I leave her be? It was so obvious that she was freaked out, so I let her be and I left. I thought about her the whole ride back. She had consumed my thoughts since the day I met her, getting into bed with her was the worst thing I could have done. Even though nothing happened; I still should have slept on the floor. For now I realize, I am falling for her.
