After the Ultrasound Chapter 3
Story written on October 5, 2012 by justkeepswimming.
The silence is deafening. She’s still playing with my hair though, and resting her free hand over mine.
"I’m not trying to get back at you Bette," Tina started. "I made love with you this afternoon because I wanted you. We have a history together. Some of it is great and some of it is awful, but I don’t have it with anyone else."
"I’m sorry I let myself forget all the good we had together," Bette said. "You deserved more from me after seven years."
"Yes I did deserve more," Tina agreed. "But we made some mistakes together, and I also made some mistakes on my own. If we hope to work anything out, we’re going to have to examine those mistakes, not just find a way to place blame."
I’d been so intent on chastising myself for our break up that it hadn’t occurred to me Tina might be feeling some guilt over the demise of our relationship as well. This is truly a revelation for me – to think that she’s been second-guessing her actions, in addition to mine. The bedside phone rings as I ponder the fact that we’re actually having a civilized conversation about where we went wrong. Tina reaches for it after giving me an apologetic look. That look gives me a strong indication of who is likely to be on the other end.
"I think you should come over later," Tina said after she and Helena exchanged greetings. "There’s something we need to discuss."
I don’t know if I should be feeling smug just yet, or if I should be contrite and await some indication from Tina as to how I should be reacting to this conversation.
"No, the ultrasound was fine, it went really well," Tina continued. "She’s still here."
Well that’s pretty much cutting right to the chase now isn’t it? I’m a little curious about the side of the conversation that I don’t hear, but the side I do hear is certainly encouraging an optimistic outlook.
"I’m not going to discuss that with you right now Helena," Tina said tersely. "I told you from the start I wasn’t ready to commit to anyone until I figured out whether there was something to salvage with Bette."

Bette, you better work hard. Not only in the bedroom but outside of it. I know you can do it! Great fic! PPS!
Salutations…all Bette really needs is a second chance.
Great job
This is exactly the way it should go. How come they didn’t think about it and we ended up having the horrible S3?
YES !Sooo right,thank you.PPS
Even after all the passing years, they still have IT. Thanks for rekindling those memories so perfectly.
Wow!! Thanks JKS for this amazing development!! 😊👍👍👍 I wonder if this is an alpha or beta version of the S3?! Or maybe the published S3 is actually the alpha version?! 😱Because it is so obvious that this development is so make sense and so not confusing (or frustating?) as what IC given.😞 Anyway… PPVS 😁
awesome – just great – its terrific to have you back.. please stay
I welcome any attempt to purge the horror of S3 from our memories, but I especially welcome any attempt from “jks”! Splendid, as usual.
yay…cheers to second chances once more :)
