"Thank you"

Tina smiled, "Anything for you, love"

Bette returned the smile but it soon faded as she knew the part of the story she had to tell next. Tina pulled away slightly, shifting her body to sit more comfortably in beside Bette.

"Most of the village both feared and hated Jodi and when they heard about our relationship, they were against it . . my father included. They said Jodi was a loose cannon that didn’t obey any rules or orders. I didn’t want to believe them . . I guess I was too caught up to see what they saw"

Bette swallowed hard as new tears began to form. Her eyes were fixated on her lap, she found it easier to speak that way. She was afraid Tina’s expressions would undo her so she avoided looking into her lover’s eyes.

"One day the village was attacked by a group of wild Boro. A few days prior I had hurt my leg so during the attack, I was cornered by three Boro. Jodi came to my rescue and killed a Boro by absorbing its powers. The only problem was . . she didn’t stop there. She didn’t stop until it was dead. She had sucked the life right out of it"

Bette paused to look at Tina’s reaction. Her lover simply nodded, not wanting to distract Bette with her comments. She rubbed Bette’s arm in comfort and Bette softly smiled.

"She was banished from the village that day, deemed to dangerous to be around us. I defended her but no one listened. A year after, she came back. She found me in the forest while I was out scouting and practically begged me to run away with her"

Considering the situation, Tina had already known what Bette decided back then.

"You left with her"

Bette nodded, "At first I found it weird that she was being so pushy about it but I just figured it was because she missed me"

Tina nodded and moved another fallen strand from Bette’s face, "What happened next?"
