    Dana realizes Alice’s insecurities with the help of Shane.

                ‘I can’t believe you just beat me!’ Harrison was pouting like a child deprived of his favourite Power Ranger figurine.

     

                ‘Oh, don’t be such a ***** boy.’ Dana said in jest and ruffled Harrison‘s dark brown hair playfully.

     

                Dana couldn’t remember the last time she had beat Harrison in tennis. She looked at her doubles partner, who was now sitting on the bench, staring woefully at the ground. And still pouting. They often played friendly matches with each other after their doubles training and Harrison usually defeated her effortlessly. Today’s game was a close match, no doubt, but she had actually won!

               

                It must be the lucky charm. Dana thought as a blissful smile spread over her face.

     

                Catching the expression on Dana’s face, Harrison prodded the brunette at the side with his tennis racket playfully and said, ‘I know why you’ve been so revved up over the past few months It’s cos of Alice, isn’t it?’

     

                It was a rhetorical question and Dana knew it. She did not respond verbally but the expression on her face spoke a thousand words. It was an expression Harrison had seen so many times over the past few months. Her grayish-blue eyes were on a lowered gaze, almost as if she was deep in thought, reveling in the pure bliss that had washed over her. The corners of her mouth were just slightly upturned. It wasn’t a grin. It wasn’t the ‘Hey how are ya doing?’ smile that Dana was famous for. It was a knowing smile. The kind of smile that comes about when you have finally found your place in life and you know you will be safe and secure in this niche of yours.

     

                Her tennis had definitely improved over the past few months. It wasn’t a drastic improvement, it couldn’t be – she was already one of the best women’s players in the world, how much better can you get? It was the fact that there was actually improvement that mattered. She thought she had reached her peak 4 years ago. Since then, her skills had stagnated and she had been training hard to just maintain her performance for the past few years. Alice managed to change all of that.

Just make sure you don’t leave us hanging for much longer, otherwise ‘We’ll need dinosaur power, NOW!’ Yeah, I think I need to burn those figurines, now. Keep up the good work!
