Angelica’s Fifth Fourth ~ Chapter Seven

“A little of that goes a long way.  Even Angelica has had enough.”

Tina turned back and saw their daughter happily softly singing along to her I pod.

“Do you want to pick something else?”

    ”You pick.”

“Actually, I’d like silence for a while.”

    “Me too.”

    @@@@@@@

“T, what have we got to drink?”

“The usual.  Do you want a water?”

    Bette shook her head

Tina then offered the contents of the bag, one by one, each of which Bette rejected.

    “Vitamin water? “

    “No  Gatorade?”

    .”Red Bull.”

    “Orange juice?”

    “Apple juice.”

Tina frowned at Bette’s pickiness as she replaced the bag on the floor.

    ”No grape juice?” Bette asked.

    “Angelica doesn’t like grape juice.”

    “Chocolate milk?”

    “We don’t allow chocolate milk.”

    “Even soymilk?”

“Bette, you know all of this.”

    “Hmmm,” Bette agreed.

Tina had switched on the radio and was searching for a station when Bette announced, “We’re stopping here for a moment.”

Tina watched Bette pull up to a minimart and jump out.

“I’ll be a minute,” she quickly spoke and, as she hurried away, called back, “Do you want anything?”

The sudden stop had captured Angelica’s attention who clamored to join her Mama B in the store.  Normally, Tina would have refused, but she was herself so confused by Bette’s sudden behavior that she welcomed an excuse to follow her into the shop.

A minute later, Angelica and Tina were in the freezer section of the store and Angelica was pulling at the hem of her other mother’s shirt, “Mama B? May I please have ice cream?”

Tina was shocked when she saw Bette hurriedly drop something into the freezer, “Boo, it’s too early for ice cream.”

“But you’re at the ice cream case.”

Bette expression betrayed she had been caught but she looked away from Angelica and apologetically at Tina.  “I am getting a fruit juice pop.”

    “I want one too.  Mama?”

Angelica looked at Tina, who sighed, “Is it at least all natural??”

Bette nodded distractedly as she worriedly watched as Angelica considered her choices.

    1. so what was the ethical lapse? You gonna share? Bette have failings? NEVER!It is too funny that Bette is going crazy for junk food, and Tina needs to stop being her mother. I don’t know why Bette is going junk food crazy but if she is enjoying herself, let her be!I have to say that I am disturbed by Tina’s reaction to seeing Angelica fall into the water. Bette was right there, Angie was fine, and tina totally disrespected Bette by grabbing Angie out of her arms, as though only Tina could take proper care of her. That was very hurtful and Bette should not have let that pass. Bette is not the babysitter, she is Angie’s parent, and needs to be treated as such. I also wonder why any child would require a bag of toys, a kid’s ipod and a portable DVD player everytime she left the house?A good storyteller evokes emotions of all kinds and this one is doing that for me! Write on!!!

    2. Caleigh, youngin’s are brought along different these days. We just got in the car and rode, didn’t we? If we beat on our siblings too bad we just heard the omnipotent threat of “If I have to pull this car over”….

    3. “Bette had never been there so she took direction happily” – Is that the character lapse for this chapter? …Do I get a prize? A fruit ice pop? Thanks for the daytrip!
