Angelica’s Fifth Fourth ~ Chapter Seven
@@@@@@@
At the beach lot, all three family members unloaded the car. Bette had let Tina select their spot and it had taken only two trips for them to carry their gear to that anchor for their morning’s adventures.
As soon as she had deposited her burden on the sand next to the blanket Tina had laid out, Angelica asked “Swim?”
“When we’re done helping Mama T.”
“I’m almost done. Go ahead, I’ll be there soon.”
“We’ll wait,”
Angelica flopped on the blanket and began moving things away from where Tina had carefully placed them only moments before.
“Angie, don’t touch.”
“If I help we can swim sooner.”
Tina eyes implored Bette to remove their daughter.
“That’s good helping, Boo. Let’s swim. Mama T will join us soon.”
“Yay,” Angelica squealed as she dragged Bette to the shoreline.
They ran along the shore. Angelica and Bette stomped in the wet sand and giggled as the water washed away their footprints as soon as they had been made. They faced waves as they came on shore and ran backwards, trying to keep the waves from catching their feet.
Angelica ran into the waves up to her knees and stood rigid with a scrunched up face as the first wave hit her. She turned and smiled at her mother with great pride because she did not fall. Bette felt the strong pull of the undertow as the water retreated from the shoreline. She saw it hit the back of Angelica’s legs and watched her daughter flop into the water. Her heart stopped as she ran to her little girl, who was laughing.
“Mama, I fell in the water.”
“That was funny, Boo,” Bette replied as she grabbed Angelica from the wet sand and clutched her to her chest. “Let’s hunt for crabs.”
Tina had been walking across the sand to join her family when she saw Angelica fall from the pull of the retreating wave. She sprinted to the shore but Angelica was out of harm’s way before she arrived. She glared at Bette, who still had not recovered from the scare. She grabbed Angelica from Bette’s arms.

what does NPR mean….lovely interlude…pps
Sugar Sugar on NPR? Sung by Click and Clack ? Or perhaps by Karl Castle? Hee. Love this story.
so what was the ethical lapse? You gonna share? Bette have failings? NEVER!It is too funny that Bette is going crazy for junk food, and Tina needs to stop being her mother. I don’t know why Bette is going junk food crazy but if she is enjoying herself, let her be!I have to say that I am disturbed by Tina’s reaction to seeing Angelica fall into the water. Bette was right there, Angie was fine, and tina totally disrespected Bette by grabbing Angie out of her arms, as though only Tina could take proper care of her. That was very hurtful and Bette should not have let that pass. Bette is not the babysitter, she is Angie’s parent, and needs to be treated as such. I also wonder why any child would require a bag of toys, a kid’s ipod and a portable DVD player everytime she left the house?A good storyteller evokes emotions of all kinds and this one is doing that for me! Write on!!!
Caleigh, youngin’s are brought along different these days. We just got in the car and rode, didn’t we? If we beat on our siblings too bad we just heard the omnipotent threat of “If I have to pull this car over”….
LOL, ‘Sugar Sugar’ on National Public Radio? – Very cute!
You said it, Christy!!!
i want my own little angelica, she’s too cute for words…oh, and now i’m craving some fruit popcicles
I really like this chapter. It reminds me of your earlier stories. Although I also don’t know what NPR is. Is that a US thing?
since when did tina become a food snob?lol bette is so funny truly to get in all the goodies!love the singing in the car!LOL :)PPS
“Bette had never been there so she took direction happily” – Is that the character lapse for this chapter? …Do I get a prize? A fruit ice pop? Thanks for the daytrip!
