    Angels Never Came Down 12

While Bette poured them drinks, Alice turned to Dana. "I came by earlier this afternoon. I thought you might need some help preparing for the party."

"Did you?" Dana felt foolish for a bloom of warmth in her chest. "Thanks. But it wasn’t necessary. I had everything ready since last night." Dana smiled a little awkardly. Alice just bopped her head along with the techno track playing on the sound system.

I was a shit to let you get away, Dana thought. She stared at Alice, unaware that Bette was observing them.

"So, anyway, I heard someone here with you this afternoon. Anyone I know?" Alice asked mischievously, masking a growing despair at the long isolating silences that were sprouting between her and Dana.

Dana finally noticed Bette who was standing by the bar with two martinis in her hand. So now you know, she spoke to Bette in her mind. She focused on Alice’s words, swallowing nervously. Bettte approached and handed one of the martinis to Alice. She nodded cooly at Dana. Then she gave Alice a lingering kiss on her temple. Alice smiled up at her and leaned so that she was resting against Bette’s side.

"No, just a friend I bumped into. Excuse me, I need to, you know, mingle." Dana chuckled awkwardly and quickly walked away.

"So is this party hot or what?" Alice exclaimed. She was excited. It had been a long time since she was out at night, and an even longer time since she was out at night with Dana and the gang. She hadn’t spotted Shane yet, and felt a pinprick of hurt, but she rationalized that the sheer number of lesbians in the house made her seeing Shane near nil. She had probably hooked up by now. Probably hiding in some corner or nook, playing her games with willing prey.

Bette just smiled at Alice. She was used to Alice’s enthusiasm for things she herself didn’t give a damn about.

The two of them walked out to the living room and stood, surveying the room. Alice saw dancing bodies, happy guests, and an endless opportunity to socialize. Bette saw exits blocked by lounging female bodies, occupied seats, and one lone, angry-looking butch lesbian talking on her cellphone.

    1. Not liking Bette all that much? Well, at least she’s contemplating the whole issue. To be honest, who doesn’t have some prejudices of their own, some so entrenched that they go unquestioned? Personally, I’m just as confused by the femmes as I am by the butches, don’t understand a need to classify oneself as either top or bottom, but hey! first and foremost I support one living their OWN life in their OWN way. But this group has a fair amount of work left it seems.

    2. This is sad but happy at the same time, feel bad for Alice but now its time for B&T get back together and be happy, Alice and Dana can be together too. Glad to catch up with your story and please post more, thanks!

    3. wow…i kinda feel sad and hopefull at the same time…this is really such a web and i hope all the characters will be able to get out of it un-hurt and happy

    4. Noooooooo!!! That’s so mean! Darn it, 7, wrench my heart out. Deep breath. Okay. I’m okay. It’s just, that’s so much heartache right there. Dana, Alice, Bette. Especially Alice and Bette. Stupid Tina! And I’m a TIbetter, so that’s hard for me to say. PPS! And Thank you!

    5. *sigh* Judgemental, “passing”, clingy Bette brought low with one moment of recognition. Alice, poor Alice, who’s done nothing wrong but be hopeful about her relationships within a fractured group. Dana, she’s about to get what she wants, isnt’ she? But maybe not *how* she wanted it. Time will tell. And Tina… she seems happy to take for now. Favors, (and, unknowingly) hearts. She better start giving back. We’ll see how this all turns out. To be honest… I can’t wait. I’ve been waiting patiently for this update, so hopefully the next is soon. Thanks 7! :)

    6. OMG, it finally happened. I just can’t imagine what Bette or Tina is thinking at the moment. Hope Bette stays at the party and maybe taks to Tina when she gets back. Gosh this is just so very complicated, hope everything turns out all right for everyone involved. Thanks for posting. PPS
