Jodi Lerner hadn’t anticipated any of the events that had taken place since she impulsively pushed her wife in the crocodile invested waters 7,500 miles away from home. In her twisted mind she’d expected Tina’s dead body to be easily found floating in the river once the search was underway. She saw herself playing the grieving widow for a time then after convincingly mourning the death she would take her inheritance and start a new life. She would string Kelly along for a while but marrying her was never in the cards. Besides she had an easy out since Kelly was already married to Matthew.

Jodi never saw Tina as her happily ever after if there was such a thing but murder truly had not entered her mind. She’d expected like Tina’s other marriages that theirs would end in divorce with a hefty financial settlement in her favor but when the opportunity presented itself she’d acted on the murderous impulse thinking she could have it all. Now almost a year later things were still unsettled.

She’d lost everything she’d hoped to gain by marrying the heiress. Social standing, money, and the benefits and privileges of a very wealthy lifestyle were gone in a flash. Joyce Wischnia had seen to that, but Jodi was nothing if not resourceful. When she’d left Joyce’s office four months previously with the news that without evidence of Tina’s demise she would have to wait almost six and a half years before she could inherit half of the Kennard fortune she was devastated. There was no way she was going to go back to peddling her art for a meager living.

When they’d first returned from Eden Jodi played the role of the widowed wife to perfection and went into seclusion at Tina’s Malibu mansion for the first few weeks. Kelly and Matthew were the only visitors she received and soon Matthew’s business took him out of the country again for extended periods of time so Jodi and Kelly were left alone.

Once Kelly got back to Los Angeles her drinking got worse and the excessive alcohol consumption affected her entire being. She was a wreck. She neglected her appearance, she gained weight, she was skittish all the time, she was moody and she lost all sense of self. She became obsessive and needy and clung to Jodi as if for dear life.
