    Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

    Bette: Come on already! (whispering)

    Thirteen year old Bette Porter sat at her desk anxiously tapping her right foot on the floor as she stares at the clock on the wall in her Math class. Today was the most important day for all kids around the world, the last day of school. School typically let out at 3:30 and as of now it was striking 3:25, for Bette these last five minutes were the longest minutes of her life.

    Alice: Will you pipe it down over there?

    Alice leaned over to whisper to Bette not wanting to cause a scene in class but very annoyed at the sounds her foot were making. She and Bette had been best friends since they were in kindergarten and some people probably would call their friendship dysfunctional, but it was one of the reason they worked out so well.

    Bette: I can’t help it Alice, I’m so ready to get out of here.

    Their teacher Ms. Williams had been glancing back and forth at the two girls the whole time they were talking. The last ten minutes of class Ms. Williams told everyone to quiet down until the bell rung for them to leave but she knew it would be either Bette or Alice who will break that rule.

    Alice: Bette, you and Tina have all summer to be together, so cool it!

    Tina has been Bette’s girlfriend their whole seventh and eighth grade year, which is a pretty big deal these days to the new generation of kids. It started out like most, the petty fights back in forth…the love taps they gave each other when passing in the school hallways…the refusing to partner together in science class but eventually working together…It wasn’t until one day they finally talked and asked one another why did they hated each other, and after a few conversations here and there, they took a liking toward one another which eventually turned into a courtship.

    Bette continued to loudly tap her foot on the floor until Alice couldn’t take it anymore. She reached over and stepped on it with her steel toe boots and a good amount of pressure, causing Bette to scream out in agony.

    Bette: Ouch!! You prick!
