Bette
’It’s not for me.’
’It’s black, you won’t make a mistake giving it as a present.’
True, black was always a right choice. What would be a catastrophic mistake, was wrapping it this year and putting it under the Christmas tree for Tina. ’Never mind. Thank you for your help.’
Lost I followed the throng of shoppers, and passed wooden chalets that offered an array of artisanal crafts, delicate ornaments, and delectable treats. The scent of roasted chestnuts and warm crepes filled the air. I took my phone.
Bette: I don’t know what to buy Renee for Christmas.
Tina: Let me think. Where are you?
Bette: Lafayette. I thought about a book. I don’t know.
Tina: I saw a beautiful orange scarf the other day. She’s cold recently. At Hermes, next to the lingerie department. You will find it. X
I smiled, really genuinely smiled and turned back.
2.8 Bette
Bon.’ Erik clapped his hands. ’Last point before we can close down for Christmas; The preparations of the dinner. Bette, how’s it going?’
’I don’t know. Sylvie?’ I looked at the Assistant Curator, who seemed like she had been waiting for this moment whole morning. We were sitting in Erik’s office and the first hour or so he had wasted on preaching about the importance of Beneficiaries to the Museum. Every Curator knew that museums like Marmottan ran on money from beneficiaries, or the ’friends of arts’ as they were lovingly called. This would be my 7th beneficiary dinner here.
Sylvie ran her hand over her eccentric spiked hair cut and adjusted the strange artistic glasses on the tip of her nose. ’The potential beneficiaries have been invited. Most RSVP’ed. Bette your Hamiltons are coming.’ Her blue eyes acknowledged me shortly before quickly re-directing her focus on Erik. ’We just have to finalize the last selection of paintings we want to hang in the dinning area this year. I have some ideas. Shall we discuss it later Erik?’
’Did you include ’Soleil levant’ as I said?’ I asked.
’Of course.’
’I want The artists’ house from the Rose Garden, there too.’ Erik sounded like a kid, wining about his pride and joy.
’No.’ I said firmly. ’It’s too dark and depressing.’

This is so well written, you can almost touch the pain, the sadness, the guilt, the sorrow but also the love she has for Tina.
I love how you let us read and feel the inner thoughts of both Tina and Bette.
I feel shrunken. Everything is so sad, you write their feelings in such a clear manner it’s almost as if I’m the one going through the heartach
When I saw 2.0, I thought, how could this original be improved or redone, but OMG you capture raw emotion so well. The pain, hurt, longing… love. Most excellent.
Even if I want to slap Bette regularly I so enjoy this story. The change of perspective is perfect to put the puzzle of what happend between the once happy couple together. I hope Bette will get over herself and her anger soon and starts talking to Tina.
