    Bette

Childishly I wanted to burry my head under the blanket. I didn’t want her to see me like this. ’I just hadn’t eaten and I had a few drinks after work. That’s all.’

’That’s not what Renee told me.’

’Fuck Tina what is this? The Spanish Inquisition?’

’Drop the act. You never drink like this. The bottle of whiskey we bought three years ago in Scotland is still unopened. I covered the bill, you almost had a bottle of whiskey and I know for sure Paul was kind with his calculation.’ Tina never shied away from calling me out on my bullshit. I imagined her straightening her back before walking into the bar. By then Paul would have polished the glass and wiped the whiskey stains from the bar. Easy French chansons would be playing again. They would share a swift look of understanding but Tina would hold her chin up, and hand him her credit card. Her eyes conveying to mind his own business, before he would hand her the bill. She would look at the disgrace but conceal any reaction. ’Did you?’ She asked quietly.

    ’Did I what Tina?’

Her hands raked through her hair. ’Did you need your wife?’

Drums got louder in my head. The drum corps marched. I searched for her hand. The golden wedding band glistered in the morning sun. I closed my eyes and pressed a kiss on her ring finger. ’Can you just stay for a little while longer and sit with me in silence?’ I asked horsely.

    2.7 Bette

The city’s grand boulevards, lined with elegant Haussmannian buildings, beckoned me forward. Window displays were a symphony of colors and lights, each one carefully curated to capture the essence of the season. But as I gazed upon the intricate scenes of merriment and joy, a sense of detachment washed over me, as if I was observing a world that existed just beyond my reach.

I found myself drawn to empty spaces, places where the world seemed to have retreated, leaving only echoes of memories behind. Abandoned parks, with their overgrown paths and weathered benches, spoke of moments once shared and now lost to time. The wind carried whispers of laughter and conversations that had faded away, leaving only a bittersweet trace.

    1. This is so well written, you can almost touch the pain, the sadness, the guilt, the sorrow but also the love she has for Tina.

I love how you let us read and feel the inner thoughts of both Tina and Bette.

    2. I feel shrunken. Everything is so sad, you write their feelings in such a clear manner it’s almost as if I’m the one going through the heartach

    3. When I saw 2.0, I thought, how could this original be improved or redone, but OMG you capture raw emotion so well. The pain, hurt, longing… love. Most excellent.

    4. Even if I want to slap Bette regularly I so enjoy this story. The change of perspective is perfect to put the puzzle of what happend between the once happy couple together. I hope Bette will get over herself and her anger soon and starts talking to Tina.
