    Bette

Tina looked at me, in the light of the display I couldn’t measure exactly how pissed she was. ’What’s wrong with you? Even for you this is dramatic.’

’Why would you even answer a work call now?’ I pressed.

’Oh this is ridiculous. But maybe you’ll get the message.’ Tina sighed again and rubbed her forehead before pretending to answer my fake call. ’Hey Claudia, I’m sorry to disturb you just before Christmas. I understand that my wife eagerly wants to get home, especially after the day we had. I’m perfectly fine with the fact that she can’t stand being locked in a tiny space with me for long, but can you please tell her to; back the fuck off! Because I can’t take her bullshit right now!’

The navigation system pointed to continue straight.

    2.11 Bette

After using the remainder of the car ride to calm down, we eventually reached home. To my surprise, when we had reached the flight of stairs, Tina had asked if I had wanted to come up. I had readily embraced the opportunity to avoid Renee’s dim and desolate apartment.

I watched the quiet night sitting on the windowsill of our bedroom. The world outside was veiled in a soft, powdery embrace. The snow carried a certain melancholy in its essence, as if it held the weight of forgotten dreams and lost moments. I watched as the city lights cast ethereal shadows on the snow-covered streets. The Eiffel Tower stood tall in the distance, its iron structure silhouetted against the night sky, a stoic witness to the changing seasons and the passing of years.

They say that when you dream of snow, it means you will lose someone you love. Last Christmas, when we had just found out Tina was pregnant, we had been daydreaming of our daughters’ first Christmas – which would be this year. We had imagined Paris would be covered in snow. We would have stuffed our fridge with enough food and drinks, because the traffic would have stopped, the stores would have closed their doors, and the central heating would have been out of order. Inside, the three of us would have locked the door, Christmas songs would have been playing in the background, and we would have been cuddling in front of the fireplace on Christmas Eve. We could have almost felt the warmth enveloping us as we had dreamed of the arrival of our little one, creating cherished memories that would have lasted a lifetime.

    1. This is so well written, you can almost touch the pain, the sadness, the guilt, the sorrow but also the love she has for Tina.

I love how you let us read and feel the inner thoughts of both Tina and Bette.

    2. I feel shrunken. Everything is so sad, you write their feelings in such a clear manner it’s almost as if I’m the one going through the heartach

    3. When I saw 2.0, I thought, how could this original be improved or redone, but OMG you capture raw emotion so well. The pain, hurt, longing… love. Most excellent.

    4. Even if I want to slap Bette regularly I so enjoy this story. The change of perspective is perfect to put the puzzle of what happend between the once happy couple together. I hope Bette will get over herself and her anger soon and starts talking to Tina.
