Blowing Me Away Again: Must be Worth Losing, if it’s Worth Something Ch. 5 of 5

I snort, “Who was that Gandhi?”

“No, smart ass!  It’s from a poem by Spanish poet Federico García Lorca and I just want you to remember, you have a choice.  Tina made hers,” I wince as her words cut me deep, but she continues, “and you have the power to make one of your own.  Always remember that, baby girl.”

I nod and she grabs her purse to leave, “Thanks, Kit.” She leans over and kisses my forehead, lifting my chin so that I’m looking her in the eyes, “Think about what I said, will ya? At the very least, try to find something in your life that’s gonna make you happy.”

“I will, Kit.  Maybe you’re right.”

“Ok, baby sis.  If you need me, you know how to find me.  What do you say we have one of your famous barbecues this weekend? You know invite all the girls over.  You think you can handle them?”

“Yeah, sure.  I’ll let you know, ok?”

She hugs me again then leaves. I know Kit’s right; my life would be much easier if Tina wasn’t in it, but no matter how hard I’ve tried I can’t seem to let go.  The heart wants what the heart wants.

After closing the gallery, I stop by the planet to pick up some dinner.  Kit has gone home already, thankfully.  I really just want to go home and relax.  I have just set the bags on the kitchen counter and slipped off my heels when I hear a knock at the front door.  I make my way into the living room and open the door, shocked by the person standing there.

    “Tina?!,” I shout in astonishment.

    She smiles timidly, “Hey…”

“Wha…what are you doing here?”  She looks incredibly beautiful.  Her hair is shining in the setting sun and there’s a lightness about her.  She seems….free.

“I…,” she smiles and tears fill her eyes, “I left him, Bette.   I left him for you.  I hope I’m not making a huge assumption here.  I came all this way…even put a deposit on a place not too far from here.  I wanted to prove to you that I’m serious.”
