    Chapter 35

Jodi got up and decided to make breakfast. Thoughts of what she saw lingered in her mind. She was busily cutting fruit when she heard Bette emerge from their bedroom.

“Good morning! How was your sleep?” Jodi asked.

“It was OK.” Bette answered nonchalantly.

“I made breakfast. Do you want to eat here or by the patio?”

    “Anywhere is fine, Jods.”

Jodi was hurt with how uncommunicative Bette was that morning. She brought the food by the table and gestured for Bette to take a seat.

“So, tell me about your meeting. How did it go?”

Bette sighed. “Argh! It was exhausting! The artist was so full of himself when he was actually just full of shit.”

“Is that why you came home so pissed?” Jodi inquired.

Bette was at a loss for a moment on how to answer that question. “Yes, it was a total waste of my time.” She lied. She then took her coffee and stood up.

“Where are you going?” Jodi asked.

“I’m going to get the paper and stay outside for a bit. I hope you don’t mind.”

“No, not at all.” But in reality, Jodi minded. Something was definitely off and she was so blinded that she refused to see the signs.

Bette had no intention of getting the paper. What she wanted was to be alone with her thoughts. Jodi’s question made her ask herself why exactly she was pissed with what she saw last night. It’s not like it was Tina’s fault. She was the one who walked away from her. She was the one who forgot and she was the one who chose Jodi over Tina.

Tina. She said it was just dinner. Then she remembered the doctor. The nerve of that doctor! She contemplated on getting Sam’s license pulled out for dating a patient’s wife. She was after all her patient and Tina is still legally her wife. But Tina said it was just dinner. If Tina said it was just that then Bette had no choice but to believe her. Unbeknownst to Bette, she did not believe Tina. She trusted her. She had faith in her.

Bette stood up, got the paper and went inside the house. She felt lighter and she had a smile on her face. She went back to the table and dropped the newspaper.

    1. jodi really does irk me in this story. If she truly loved Bette she would not force herself onto Bette. Tina is doing what she should do, let Bette come back to her.
