Chance meeting
2 years later
Bette traveled extensively all over the United States, Canada and sometimes abroad seeking new talent for her emerging artist showcases, but California also offered wonderful venues for such explorations. The annual Art Walk on Venice Beach was one of her favorites and she made it a point to attend every year. Like today she usually went alone so she could take her time and walk around for hours without worrying about keeping a time schedule. After enjoying a beautiful day on the beach and satisfied that she’d seen everything worthwhile she was about leave when happened upon a vision that literally took her breath away.
Bette moved closer and stood gazing at the beautiful artwork when a young woman approached her. The woman was about an inch shorter in stature with shoulder length blonde hair worn loose and windblown. By the look of her toned athletic body it was obvious that she worked out but her natural tan indicated that it wasn’t in a gym.
While Bette appeared to be in a world of her own the young woman took the time to check out the mocha skinned beauty with the penetrating chocolate brown eyes. Her smile brightened and her eyes sparkled in the sun as she waited for Bette to come out of her reverie. Bette flashed her own dazzling smile as she heard a soft voice with a distinctly southern accent ask “do you like what you see?” Bette shifted her gaze from the painting to the woman who was seeking her attention and once again found herself mesmerized.
“Yes as a matter of fact I do.” She answered the beauty with the hazel green eyes that stood before her.
“My friend Valerie Simmons is the artist. Are you interested in purchasing it?”
“Your friend Valerie has a unique style to her art that I find very appealing, but I’m not here to buy. I own a gallery in West Hollywood. We feature emerging artist. I’m interested in talking to her about possibly doing a showcase if she isn’t already exhibiting elsewhere. Is she?”
“No. She’s a recognized talent but I don’t think she’s had anyone interested in exhibiting her work.”
“That’s hard to believe she definitely has talent. I’m Bette by the way Bette Porter.”

What a wonderful chapter! I am interested in discovering if Bette’s psyche has healed from the attack. I guess more will be revealed as she grows closer to Tina and Valerie.
Nice chapter!..Love that Bette has now met Tina and Valerie and she has people to confide in since it seems she has no one close to her around right now
Great update.
Great story and writing
I totally agree with you! I couldn’t have a better adjective to use Bette’s conduct when she was with Jodie as humble. and it was very sad thing.
It was a very nice chapter. I’m glad that Bette met Tina and Valerie. I hope this friendship will help to overcome Bette’s pain.
I look forward to the next chapter.
Great, a nice Chapter and the beginnings of an interesting storyline.
I accept what you say in your Author’s notes but the last Chapter was too upsetting for me.
I, too hated Jodie in the show and did not like the way Ilene wrote Bette’s character around that relationship. It did not ring true and I didn’t believe Bette would have taken the time she did to split from Jodie nor that she would have taken the Hammer exhibition fiasco lying down.
Loved the update and glad Bette has new friends. Thanks
Great update!
