    Chance meeting

“I’m not sure if he’s around but I’ll call him. Are you closer to here or to home?”

    “I’m closer to home.”

“OK I’ll try to get Eric and then we’ll just meet you at home.”

“OK but call me back if you can’t get Eric. I don’t want to leave you stranded.”

“I’ll figure something out. Hey Val there’s an art gallery owner here that is interested in talking to you about your work, maybe doing an exhibit at her gallery. Her name is Bette Porter. She owns the Porter Art Gallery in West Hollywood.”

“Seriously? Shit just my luck she’d come by when I wasn’t there. Do you realize that a Bette Porter endorsement is like money in the bank? I’ve never met her but she’s very well known in the art world. I’m impressed that she likes my stuff. Usually when she exhibits a new artist their career takes off. I’m sorry I couldn’t get back there to meet her.”

“Yeah, that’s too bad. She’s anxious to talk to you. Anyway I have her business card so you can give her a call and set something up. “

“I have a better idea. Ask her if wants to come over for dinner. We can just hang out here and talk and she can see the rest of my work. Maybe since she’s already there she can help you pack up the stuff while you wait for Eric. She’ll know how to make sure nothing gets damaged.”

Tina lowered her voice as she spoke into the phone.

“Val don’t you think that’s a little presumptuous? I mean she doesn’t even know us.”

“I’m sure it will be fine. There’s no harm in asking right? Put her on the phone, I’ll ask her myself.”

Valerie wasn’t much for protocol and Tina was afraid that she would put Bette on the spot.

“No hold on a sec I’ll ask her.”

Tina called to Bette who’d moved a few feet away to give Tina privacy and not appear to be eavesdropping on the phone call.

“Hey Bette Val is stuck in traffic behind a bad wreck. She’s not going to make it back here any time soon. She wanted to know if you’re not busy tonight if you want to come by the house for dinner so you’all can talk.”

    1. What a wonderful chapter! I am interested in discovering if Bette’s psyche has healed from the attack. I guess more will be revealed as she grows closer to Tina and Valerie.

    2. I totally agree with you! I couldn’t have a better adjective to use Bette’s conduct when she was with Jodie as humble. and it was very sad thing.
It was a very nice chapter. I’m glad that Bette met Tina and Valerie. I hope this friendship will help to overcome Bette’s pain.
I look forward to the next chapter.

    3. Great, a nice Chapter and the beginnings of an interesting storyline.

I accept what you say in your Author’s notes but the last Chapter was too upsetting for me.

I, too hated Jodie in the show and did not like the way Ilene wrote Bette’s character around that relationship. It did not ring true and I didn’t believe Bette would have taken the time she did to split from Jodie nor that she would have taken the Hammer exhibition fiasco lying down.

    4. ok I think I remember this story and it is as good as it was back then….yes I got my meeting between tina and bette and I cant wait to read how their relationship progress
