    Chandelier – 24

Bette laughed. "No, you didn’t say that."

    "Are you sure?"

"T, I think I’d remember if you threw a compliment like that my way."

    "How come?"

Bette shrugged. "I’m trying to make it a point to listen to everything you say."

Tina reddened. "Even the bad stuff?"

"Especially the bad stuff," Bette admitted.

    Tina lowered her gaze, abashed.

Well, there goes the success rate of tonight’s date.

Bette noticed the sudden change in Tina’s expression, and leaned forward. "Hey, why’d you stop?"

Tina looked up. "Because one of these days I’m going to say the wrong thing and you’re going to realize you don’t need this insanity in your life."

    Bette sighed.

"Sorry." Tina said quickly. "Too honest?"

Bette looked at her. "Who are you?"

    "I’m sorry?"

    "Right now. Who are you?"

    "What do you mean?"

"When I look at you, you’re Tina. My Tina. The Tina who stole my heart and refuses to just surrender it back. But when you talk?" Bette shook her head. "I don’t know who you are. I don’t know if it’s going to be the Tina who’s mother to my present child and future children. Or if it’s Tina who woke up one day and decided she wants to be with men. Is it Tina, who made several powerful producers cry with her premature retirement, or the woman who sat back and let me dictate what she said and did?"

As if the answer to that kind of line of questioning was easy. And on a date, too.

Tina glanced around the restaurant, wondering where the hell the dessert and coffee were. Or what the hell was in their food that prompted this kind of uninhibited question and answer from the two of them.

Bette watched Tina scan the environment, the way those hazel eyes lingered for just a minute on the dancefloor. Undoubtedly there would be a flicker of a reminder of how Bette had conducted some of her best seduction moves on Tina on dancefloors. Truly, nobody she’d ever danced with had shown restraint to the Bette Porter charm.

    1. Tiff…you’re the shiznit. Your dialogue is fucking amazing. Do you speak to your friends in this manner? If so, you’re a brilliant conversationalist.

    2. You make these two sound almost like real people. I know that they are characters on a tv show, but I have come to love them as real people. You have taken that dream and showed them living in a world that would rather kick you in the face than help you survive. You have shown the reader the struggles that Tina has gone through in trying to figure out her own head. She knows that she loves Bette and wants her back but is afraid of all that goes with what makes Bette and Tina. You make me want to grab Tina’s hand and help her make that leap of faith into Bette’s life and to be her lover, friend and forever.

    3. What more can I say after all that’s been said by the other readers. Amazing. Let the dance begin, or rather, let the dance resume…the dance that’s their lives.

    4. Ah breakfast WITH tIFF (HHmmmnnnn that sounds familiar…?)….for me that is – I’m reading this with my toast & banana. We’ll all be hoping B&T get to breakfast together soon though

    5. Oh, finally Tina did something real. If they continued that ‘vague’ (can’t find a suitable word here) situation, I doubt they’d be eaten alive.

    6. I recognized the chapter title before reading the author note, a good song, not one of my faves though.. Woman, I love how balanced your characters are.. Only true Tibette fans don’t live in denial and vilify one of them.. YOU RULE..

    7. Your writing sucks me everytime despite the fact that I do not want Tibette together after all that shit. But like I said a trip to denialville is one helleva ride if you are the conductor! *Chug chug chu chu chu*

    8. Well Tiff, This is by far the best diologued(sp?) FF, i’ve read in a while. So I hoPe u keep it up. I lUv the fact that tina was being real, and tellin’ bette how she basically screwd up. UNlike the other writers who live on fantasywishful thinking land. This sounds sooo real, If IC does this, it would be plausible to see a reunion by B&T. KEEP IT UP, UR A GREAT WRITER.

    9. Thank you for such a great story and this chapter. WOW. You make them feel almost real, we can see and hear them talk almost. You are so very good. Please let them get together but not wait too overly long for that complete re-connection. Thanks.

    10. Hey TD, Pleasure abounds whenever I see that you hacve posted another magnificent chapter in this tale. Bette and Tina are slowly changing and realizing jusy how much they both wan this chance to work. your dialogue zips along and dazzles at every turn. Now will we gets to see these two love birds getting it on, on the dance floor. My wish for sure. Thank you so much for this brilliance and sharing it with me. Your Loyal Fan.
