    Chapter 1 – September

Bette: Well, we will introduce you to anyone we see that might be a candidate. You of course will have to decide whether they are truly a candidate or not.

Margaret: I am going back to work on Monday. Maybe I can help you guys out with taking Daniel to school. Maybe John David as well. And since we are going in so early, it might be easier on you if we eat at the school cafeteria. They have good breakfast and a good choice. I know John David eats there generally in the morning. You and Tina could have your breakfast about an hour later and you could leave for work later. I could bring them both home, as I usually don’t leave until about 4 or 5 in the afternoon.

Bette: Daniel has filled his schedule and is now leaving about 5:00 pm on Monday through Thursday and he leaves at 3:00 pm on Friday.

Margaret: Well, I think we’ll try to get home early on Fridays. Let me see what I can work out next week.

Tina: Margaret, that would be wonderful. But you know, if it’s not convenient, Bette can pick them up at least Monday through Thursday.  Friday would be really great. And I am sure that Barbara will love to have your assistance. Do we need to give you some money for fuel?

Margaret:  Absolutely not. I am not spending a dime more than I would if I just drove by myself. John David lives what, 6 block away?  That’s nothing.

Bette: Well, we’ll talk to the Wilkins. We normally just swing by his house and pick him up or drop him off. You don’t know how much we would appreciate this. We could get another hour of sleep. And if I need to pick the boys up, it would make it easier.

Margaret: Well, they key is them eating at the school. And of course, you can keep an eye on what Daniel is eating. I think Daniel does very well in his selections.

Bette: Well, I can increase his allowance by an extra $50 to cover breakfast.

Tina:  Daniel has gotten to the age where he would eat anything as long as you called it food.

Tina fixed some meat loaf sandwiches with some cold salad sides. Margaret was impressed with the combination and the taste of the food.  In the afternoon, Bette, Tina and Margaret went to a plant nursery and bought some plants for the patio and the master deck. They then went around the yard to survey the plants and start to plan where they would plant a vegetable garden and an herb garden. There were several places where Margaret suggested some new plants. Tina wanted to start a rose garden but wanted to wait until everything was settled with the house.
