Chapter 10
They look at each other again, both unsure of where to go from here.
(Tina) May I join you?
Bette looks at her and sighs.
(Bette) Tina, it’s not necessary. I’ll reschedule with Andrew. I’ll save you the trouble of smoothing things over on his behalf, or whatever this is you’re doing
Tina looks at her for a moment before taking a seat opposite her.
(Tina) I’ll go if you want me to, but I’d like to stay
Bette looks at her suspiciously.
(Tina) We’re obviously going to cross paths, potentially quite frequently. Can we share a drink together in the interest of developing a civil relationship?
Bette considers her for another moment.
(Bette) OK
(Tina) Thank you
The waitress stops past their table and takes their order and they then sit together awkwardly, each unsure of how to proceed.
Bette breaks the silence.
(Bette) Why film production in New York?
Tina looks over at her.
(Tina) I have a friend, Helena, I basically adopted her story as my own. Lying is a lot easier if the material is familiar to you
(Bette) Did they teach you that in law school?
Tina smiles.
(Tina) Sort of, actually
Bette smiles.
(Tina sighs) I had lunch with her in New York right before I left, and I guess that gave me the idea
(Bette) You don’t mean Helena Peabody do you?
Tina looks at her in surprise, and Bette smiles.
(Tina) God, I guess this was always a terrible idea
(Bette smiles) Well maybe if you’re friends with Helena Peabody, she’s about the most well connected lesbian you could find
(Tina) Well she’s not so well connected in Philadelphia. I thought I was safe
(Bette smiles) Sorry
Tina shrugs and smiles back at her.
(Bette) She’s very attractive, why didn’t you just sleep with her?
Tina laughs.
(Tina) Ah, no. She’s my friend, that would be really weird. And anyway I wanted for this to be totally separate from my life
Bette raises an eyebrow at her.
(Tina laughs) I know, sitting here with you right now obviously demonstrates how miserably I failed in that department
Bette smiles.
(Bette) So you’ve lived in LA a year? Did you move here for Andrew’s political career?

Bette is way too nice. There is no way I would even be in the same room, let alone have drinks with Tina after the lies. I have always been on team Tina, but I am having trouble accepting this behavior from her. I am in no way going to drop this story, I am a Tibette forever fan.
Very interesting story, thanks.
Waiting for the next.
Tina feels like a jigsaw that is still missing pieces, lying within another puzzle that is slowly being revealed. A truly enthralling tale.
Surely Tina is not naïve enough to believe that Helena doesn’t have some idea of what happened in Majorca? And with Alice snooping around and being in the Potter Gallery she is a possible friend of Bette’s and now an acquaintance of Helena’s too. Tina’s Majorca trip is about to become pubic knowledge…. is she ready for that? I do not know what kind of guy Andrew is, but I have a feeling he is not going to be pleased with the information nor the fact that is will soon be in the public sphere. Tina is headed for a huge storm… whatever life she was planning on with Andrew may never come to fruition. She should have had more discussion with Bette while she was in Majorca as to who they were, where they lived, their professions and so forth. Too late now…. the dominoes are about to fall and there are going to be a lot of hurt feelings all the way around.
Great story… keep it going.
