    Chapter 10 – Big Bear Mountain – Day 2

Tina:  Breakfast is about ready Bette. Do you want to get Daniel up? Just tell him to put on his robe and come eat.

    Bette:  Sure.

Bette went and woke Daniel up. He woke up and smiling when he saw Bette. He had obviously slept very well. And having his mom wake him up was not what he was accustomed to. Since Daniel could walk and able to get himself out of his bed, his parents did not wake him and get him up. They always said goodnight and tucked him in occasionally, but never were they present when he got up.

    Bette: You sleep okay?

Daniel:  Yes, I slept really well.  I was nice and warm. The mattress is comfortable and I did hear the garbage cans rattling once.

Bette:  Breakfast is ready Sweetheart. Just put on your robe and slippers. Go wash your face and hands and come on. Eat first and dress later.

Bette left him to get out of bed and head for the bathroom. Bette then when to help Tina put the breakfast on the table. She refilled their coffee and put some bottled water out. She looked at the fire place and notice there were still some embers, but she decided not to make a fire this morning. Tina had turned up the heat and the cabin was very comfortable.

Tina was smiling. She knew Bette was not a morning person. But she was plodding along getting things done.

Tina:  Bette, how do you feel this morning?

    Bette:  Fine, why?

Tina:  Well, my legs feel a little tight from yesterday’s hike.  And I am a little concerned about the weather moving in and us climbing this hill to get back to the cabin and getting here before the weather hits.

Bette: Tina? When have you ever known me not to have a plan? I promise you that we will make it back if not on time at least before it becomes a full-blown storm. And if it makes you feel any better, my legs are feeling a little stressed as well. And if everything works according to my plan, you and I and Daniel will get back up this hill with ease.

Tina:  What do you have in mind? How are you going to manage that?
