Chapter 11
Shane smiles and shakes her head and they share an affectionate look.
Bette returns to the table and begins pouring the drinks from the pitcher. Once she has poured the last they sit in silence for a moment and Bette has a sip of her drink. Alice turns to her.
(Alice) So what have you been up to recently?
(Bette) Just work really, this last minute show is killing me
Alice nods.
(Alice) Yeah it sounds pretty intense
Alice glances at Shane and Dana before clearing her throat and focusing back on Bette.
(Alice) Have you been on any dates?
Bette frowns as she refills her water glass.
(Bette) You mean with Tina?
(Alice frowns) Ah, no, I don’t mean with Tina. With other people
Bette looks at her curiously.
(Bette) Why are you asking me that?
(Alice) I’m just wondering. You’re free to, right?
(Bette shrugs) It’s casual Alice. So yes, of course we’re free to see other people
Alice nods.
(Alice) And have you?
They look at each other for a moment and Alice raises her eyebrows.
(Alice) Have you gone on a single date since you met her?
Bette sighs and has a sip of water.
(Alice) Tell me this then, have you slept with anyone? Kissed anyone? Flirted?
Bette gives her an exasperated look.
(Alice) Noticed anyone?
(Bette sighs) Al, why the sudden interest in this?
(Alice) I don’t know
She glances again at Shane and Dana.
(Alice) Maybe you should
(Bette sighs) Why?
(Alice shrugs) Because she is
Bette stops and looks at her for a long moment.
(Bette) Did she tell you that?
(Alice) No, she didn’t have to. I saw her out with someone a few days before she left
Shane looks between them.
(Shane) We don’t know it was a date
Alice looks over at Shane and raises her eyebrows.
(Alice) She hasn’t been in LA that long, I don’t think she’s made close enough friends with anyone to act like that
Bette looks between them all.
(Bette) This isn’t an issue, can we change the subject please?
Friday evening, Alice is working on her laptop at her dining room table and answers her cell.
(Alice) Hey Tee, what’s going on?
Tina gives a small laugh.

Rules up and down and up again, but they confessed their true feelings.
I simply love this story!

Why is Tina making this so hard? I feel like she is manipiulating Bette for some strange reason. Either she feels the same way or she stops stringing Bette along! Piss or get off the pot , Tina! PPS

I am actually getting frustrated with this story. Its a point of trying to keep something hidden from the other… going through the motions of having a true connection when the rules say you do not. And since you do not, it could all be over without a word. No need for goodbyes or an explanations… because there was no connection anyway. Those are the rules. And their individual emotional response is their individual problem…. and that to me seems cruel and uncaring. Its a wall which will cause major heartache at some point which was the point of the making the rules in the first place. To avoid a heartbreak…. Time to take the chance that this relationship is real and is something good and long lasting and meaningful not just a good time momentary fling with no attachments. And just because they are attracted to each other and see and feel something they have never experienced before does not remove the “oh but this is just something for the moment” and has no future rules. And that is truly a frustrating thought…. This is a relationship with conditions.. Truly a bargained arrangement.
Thanks for the chapter…. I do hope these rules go away…. and allow them to love each other without conditions.

I think that’s the point of this story… this journey that katynd is guiding us on. Finding a way. It’s going to be frustrating because the walls won’t come down all at once. They can’t. It’s too much. It’s going to be gradual.

Running out of superlatives to describe your writing, apropos of nothing, Bette’s line from Chpt 7 has been a recurring thought for me:
“(Bette) I don’t think you need to take quite so much from you feeling jealous. It doesn’t need to be the terrible thing you’re making it out to be, if we choose to look at it differently”
– This line should be framed and hanging on a psychotherapist’s waiting room wall.

I created an account on here just to let you know how much I love your stories and your writing. I am so crazy hooked on every single one of your works. Thank you so much for sharing these stories with us.
I can’t wait to see how their relationship will evolve. I’m on the edge of my seat every time you post a chapter and I’m sure things will go terribly wrong before Tina finally realize how good Bette is for her. I can’t wait to hear more about Tina’s backstory and find out why she is so guarded. The way you portray them falling in love subtlety and slowly is pure perfection. It reminds me a little bit of some of your other stories as well. You capture this dynamic between them perfectly every time.
Anyways, can’t wait for more. And thank you again for keeping us entertained and continuing to keep the stories about Bette and Tina alive!

You are brilliant. BRILLIANT. I’m desperate to know what is going on for Tina in this story. Why the rules when you are both so clearly in love?

Please update soon! It’s like a good book that I can’t put down.
Love your stories and how the stories evolve.

Tina has apparently been hurt in the past therefore doesn’t want the commitment with Bette. I think we will find out Tina’s reason. Bette is so patient with Tina letting her rule the relationship. Thank you for the new chapters.
