    Chapter 16

They look at each other for a moment, and Helena smiles at her affectionately.

(Helena) Well I certainly know how special you are. I guess Bette has seen it too?

    Tina smiles and shrugs.

(Helena) So what exactly was the plan here?

(Tina) I thought I could get it out of my system

Helena raises an eyebrow and gives her a long look.

(Tina) I know how stupid that sounds. I just expected, I don’t know, an experience. It’s something I always thought I would do at some point, and I met Andrew when I was young and so it never happened. I didn’t expect what happened between us

(Helena) And what did happen between you?

Tina looks downwards towards her wine glass.

(Tina) I think we fell in love

    (Helena) You think?

Tina raises her eyes to meet Helena’s.

(Tina) Well, I know I did. I can’t speak for her I guess

Helena looks at her for a long moment.

(Helena) And what are your feelings for Andrew?

Tina sighs and focuses back on her wine.

(Tina) If you’d asked me that six months ago I would have said that I loved him and I was happy

    (Helena) And now?

(Tina sighs) Meeting Bette has changed everything for me. I didn’t know that someone could have this effect on me. It’s made me look at everything from a different perspective, through a different lens. I see now that there is something missing with Andrew. Any feelings I have ever had for him are nothing at all compared to how I feel for Bette

Helena again takes a moment to look at her. She eventually shrugs casually.

    (Helena) So, be with Bette

Tina gives her a reproachful look.

(Tina) It’s so simple, is it?

    (Helena) It is actually

Tina shakes her head at her with a smile.

(Helena) I think you’re asking me to give you a push here, and I’ll oblige

Tina looks down at her wine glass, deep in thought.

(Tina) Whenever I think about it I come to the conclusion that I just can’t actually do this to Andrew

She raises her eyes to meet Helena’s.

(Tina) This would hurt him, so much. And the timing couldn’t be worse. It feels like I’ve passed a point of no return. To have willingly put in all of these years working together to this point, and then leave at the worst possible moment. He doesn’t deserve this. The hurt, or the public embarrassment

    1. Finally, Tina comes clean and they have a heart-to-heart talk. Despite her lies, I don’t think she ever meant to hurt Bette and she honestly thought they’d never meet again. But as she verbalized to her dear friend Helena she unexpectedly fell in love so what happened in Majorca can’t just stay in Majorca anymore. Bette turned Tina’s world upside down and now she can’t think straight.

I hope Tina will find the courage to make the right decision on what she wants for the long term for herself. I’m looking forward to her heart-to-heart with Andrew. He seems to be a nice guy but who knows how he would react to Tina’s confession. Would his hurt and anger be in tropical storm or hurricane proportion? I must say that in all their scenes together, Tina and Andrew come across as an old married couple. There’s warmth and affection there somewhere but they’re more of a political enterprise now than anything. I can’t help but think of Walter, Bill Pullman’s character, when Meg Ryan, “Annie”, was breaking up with her. I think he said he doesn’t want Annie to settle for him and that marriage is tough enough without such low expectations. Would Andrew settle for an unhappy, sad and distant partner beyond the limelight? If he truly cares for Tina and her long-term happiness, I hope Andrew will find the courage to make the right decision too.

I’m typing this in the dark, a day after a scary hurricane so before my phone’s battery runs out of charge, I just want to say thank you so much for this lovely, well-written story, katynd!❤ It’s been a rollercoaster ride and I’ve loved every minute of it!❤ I savor each chapter and reread them several times.❤ I hope we’ll get to enjoy more chapters, that this one won’t end anytime soon. Many thanks again, katynd, and have a lovely weekend!:D

    2. So we are down to it…. what does Tina want? I think we know, but does she have the will power to make her life what she wants it to be. To live your life in total sacrifice for the benefit of others does not make for happiness. If she chooses Andrew, she will leave him eventually. And there will be no convenient time in which her leaving will not impact his career. Bette may be patient, but I believe there is a limit to how long she will be patient. She may be willing to wait months but probably not years. Tina has said that she and Andrew plan to marry before the election or before he takes office as governor. I would see that the moment the marriage takes place, that is the end of Bette’s patience. For Bette, this will signal Tina’s choice. All or nothing….

      Great story…. keep it going….

    3. Love this story and agree especially with mightymouse comment.

I do hope Tina will make the right decision, wish i had confidence in her like Helena but we will see if Tina will follow her heart or marry Andrew out of some sort of misplaced sense of duty. Andrew deserve someone who loves him like Tina loves Bette. Let Tina make the right decision whatever that may be.

    4. Thanks for this chapter. I think Tina needs to break it off with Andrew because she obviously is not in love with him, and the marriage would be just one of convenience that for whatever reason they have committed to each other. The break-up should have nothing to do with Bette. Tina needs to be on her own and find herself before she jumps into a relationship with Bette or anyone else if she’s not even sure that being in a lesbian relationship is what she wants. She’s infatuated with Bette, but she said it herself she just wanted to scratch an itch and had every intention of going back to her hetero lifestyle. She’s on the path of ruining many lives and hurting a lot of people not only personally but professionally. As far as I can tell she’s not risking anything, and Bette is risking everything. At least Bette isn’t so far gone that she didn’t fall into being Tina’s woman on the side while Tina pursued her life with Andrew. I have a feeling you will redeem Tina by the end of this story, but for me it will be too little too late. Thanks for keeping it interesting as I do look forward to what’s next.
